Bands I've Discoged (As of 12/8/16)
I'm very structured with the way I listened to music. Much of the time, if I want to listen to a band, I start from the very beginning, go to the end of their studio albums, and then go back and work my way through their b-sides. My girlfriend says it's OCD, but idk. Anyway, here is a list of bands that I've finished with so far in semi-order of when I listened to them. I will be making another list of bands I'm planning to in the future. |
1 | | Paramore Brand New Eyes
The first band I found and loved without the help of my parents' musical tastes. |
2 | | Dixie Chicks Fly
I've got to give credit to my mom on this one. I eventually shied away from her country music, but I'll always love the Chicks. |
3 | | Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold
The best thing to come from a bad relationship - got me listening to heavier music as well as enforcing variety in my music tastes. |
4 | | Queens of the Stone Age Queens of the Stone Age
Perhaps my most treasured musical partner of my life so far, Josh Homme and friends will always hold a special place in my heart. |
5 | | Coldplay Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
A sunny section of my life has been spent shamelessly enjoying all of their albums, that's right, even "A Head Full of Dreams." |
6 | | Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
I started the Devil and God on a whim, and immediately fell in love. Wasn't as taken with Deja, and thus slowly circled around to the rest of their music. |
7 | | Them Crooked Vultures Them Crooked Vultures
Dunno if this counts 'cause its just the one, but man does this rock hard. (Homme Infatuation Pt. 2) |
8 | | TV on the Radio Dear Science
Been rockin' to them for a while before I broke into the meat of their music, and right from "Young Liars" I was immediately in love. |
9 | | Linkin Park A Thousand Suns
Oh boy, just you wait for my Controversial Ranking for these guys. |
10 | | Peter Gabriel Up
Big thanks to my dad for this one, my favorite solo artist out there. |
11 | | Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Huge band for me, essentially made my whole senior year musically. Listened to every song I could find, which was something alright. |
12 | | The Strokes Angles
Unlike most people, I wasn't very impressed with their first couple albums. Also unlike most people, I really enjoy their last few. |
13 | | The Killers Hot Fuss
Essentially the opposite of my feelings for Strokes. |
14 | | Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
Let's call it my "spiritual awakening" to hip-hop and rap music, yes? |
15 | | Alabama Shakes Sound & Color
A couple of really rad albums, this one in particular keeps growing on me. |
16 | | Nirvana MTV Unplugged in New York
Another band that I didn't go crazy for, but I certainly dig them, especially "Unplugged." |
17 | | Metallica Metallica
This one took me a while to get through, but persevere I did, and was rewarded by enjoying their later-ish albums more than most. |
18 | | Panic! At the Disco Pretty. Odd.
Listened to them on a whim while on a road trip to New Orleans, first and last albums are eh, middle three are surprisingly good. |
19 | | The Police Synchronicity
Listened to them on that same road trip. Interesting ride to say the least. |
20 | | M83 Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
"Midnight City" blew my mind freshman year, and coming back to the rest of their discog, I wasn't disappointed. |
21 | | Regina Spektor Soviet Kitsch
"Us" was my jam, now most of her albums are too! |
22 | | Foo Fighters Wasting Light
Primarily bland alt. rock with some great songs and albums interspersed made it mostly worthwhile. |
23 | | Eagles Of Death Metal Heart On
These albums weren't the best, but I had a great time with some of them. There are some def jams. (Homme Infatuation Pt. 3) |
24 | | Jeff Buckley Grace
This monumental album was under my radar for much longer than I'da thought, but I'm glad to have found it when I did. (Sketches is great, too.) |
25 | | Natalie Maines Mother
Great solo album from the front woman of the Dixie Chicks, with a solid rock edge. |
26 | | Court Yard Hounds Amelita
Great duo album from the other women of the Dixie Chicks, with a free-flowing bluegrass sound. (Pretty sure I'm the only one who rated these. Check 'em out.) |
27 | | Boots Electric Honkey Kong
Solid solo effort from Jesse Hughes, but steer clear if you can't stand Eagles of Death Metal. |
28 | | Julian Casablancas and The Voidz Tyranny
Listened to both his solo album and Tyranny. Tyranny rules. |
29 | | Desert Sessions Volumes 9 & 10
Fantastic jams and experimentalism from my favorite musical dude and Co. (Homme Infatuation Pt. 4) |
30 | | The Beatles Abbey Road
Everyone likes them, had to try them out. Pretty solid, still overrated. |
31 | | Green Day American Idiot
Girlfriend likes them, had to try them out. Dug the rock, not so much the punk. |
32 | | Silversun Pickups Carnavas
Pretty great band across the board, though Carnavas is the obvious highlight. |
33 | | Janelle Monae The ArchAndroid
Her music is just delicious and all over the place. |
34 | | Kyuss Welcome to Sky Valley
Wanted to hear some great metal tunes and how Homme got started, was not disappointed. (Homme Infatuation Pt. 5) |
35 | | Frank Ocean channel ORANGE
Some really smooth, fine-as-hell music here, but I just don't enjoy "Blonde" as much as the next guy. |
36 | | The Swell Season The Swell Season
An emotional, beautiful, depressing roller coaster of a duo, this is my kind of folk music. |
37 | | Harrod and Funck Live
Endlessly underrated and obscure folk band from the midwest. If you enjoy folk, check out "Live." If you enjoy alternative, check out "Dreams of the Color Blind." I beg of you. |
38 | | Arctic Monkeys AM
Don't get what all the hubbub was about their first album, but there are definitely some great albums here I'd love to add to my collection. (Homme Infatuation Pt. 5 1/2) |
39 | | The White Stripes Elephant
Literally just finished up Icky Thump today. Great, great band, looking forward to listening to his solo stuff very soon. |
