Unsung Heroes 2016

Just a quick list of some 2016 stuff that could do with some more lovin'.
1Shooter
Last Day

Ambient/Post-Rock: Wonderful ep by a chill user. Adopts an intentionally barebones and ambient inspired post rock style, with some nods to the likes of Mono and Explosions in the Sky in the mix. Its concise, engrossing (impressively so given its short run time) and simply beautiful. 3.7/5.
2Nails/Full of Hell
Split

Grind/Hardcore: If you want to be musically pummelled in the face but don't have much time on your hands, Nails and Full of Hell have got you covered, achieving the job swiftly in under 5 minutes. 3.5/5.
3JANK
Versace Summer

Emo: an exceptionally fun, bubbly and varied ep, with a smattering of math rock and indie vibes. 4/5.
4Stimming
Alpe Lusia

Minimal/Electronic: This has gained a tonne of popularity since I last checked it, but still deserves far more recognition than it has been given. I'm a bit of an electronic scrub, but this, as Pots has quite elegantly predicted, blew my nips clean off. 4.1/5.
5Alan Gogoll
Boutique Bear

Instrumental Folk / Classical Guitar: a bunch of gorgeous and delicate instrumental guitar pieces. The guy is clearly a stellar musician, but the production falters at times and occasionally some of the technical flourishes of his music go clear over my head and don't add all that much for me. Regardless, this contains some of the most emotionally engaging single-instrument material I've heard in a while and certainly needs more recognition. 3.6/5
6TotorRo
Come to Mexico

Math Rock / Post Rock: all that I have to say about this can be found in my review, but in sum its a warming math rock record pulling a few tricks from ambient and post rock. 3.9/5
7Razen
Endrhymes

Minimal/Folk: some weird minimalist neo-folk, quite trance-inducing and quirky, but worth a spin for anyone into this kind of thing. 3.4/5.
8Frank Turner
Positive Songs For Negative People (Acoustic)

Folk: this technically came out in 2015, but the independent pressing of it on vinyl dropped in 2016 and I suspect not enough people know of its existence. Superb easy listening and relatable folk. In many ways it far exceeds the original record and compliments it perfectly. 4/5.
9Degaruda
Monstrous Victorious
