| I'm Back For Now - Send Modern Metal Recs | 1 | | Cobalt Slow Forever
Awesome blending of prog, black, and thrash. Hunt the Buffalo is a goddamn tune. | 2 | | Meshuggah obZen
Bleed and Dancers To A Discordant System have actually destroyed cities before. This album riffs hard. | 3 | | Mayhem Esoteric Warfare
I refused to listen to this album for a while because I hated every Mayhem album from Grand Declaration Of War and onward but I'll be damned if this didn't end up being my favorite black metal album of the decade so far. A lot of black metal albums these days do too much for me by making their songs like 8 minutes long and use the same riff for each track but Esoteric Warfare brings black metal back to its chaotic evil roots. Need more modern black metal albums like this. | 4 | | Mastodon Crack the Skye
A serious contender for my favorite album of all time. So much emotion and riffs, and an amazing story behind it too. I've never heard a band quite like Mastodon; Blood Mountain and Emperor Of Sand rule too. I need more uplifting prog sludge like this, and before anyone recs me Gojira or Baroness, I tried those bands and I just can't get into them. | 5 | | Opeth Ghost Reveries
Anymore prog death metal out there with keyboard synths? | 6 | | Rammstein Reise, Reise
Greatest industrial metal album I've ever heard, partly because of its German roots. Any other foreign metal bands that combine heavy riffs with lyrics in another language? Its what makes Rammstein so unique. | 7 | | Rival Sons Pressure And Time
Probably the only hard rock band I like these days. Throwback to the days of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple while still adding their own flavor. I've tried Wolfmother but wasn't keen on them, send help. | 8 | | Rude Remnants...
Of all the death metal albums to be released this year, like Infrared Horizon and Atonement, Rude's Remnants stands out as this year's finest. Imagine the glory days of Dismember and Morbid Angel but remade now, even down to having a cover made by death metal cover artist veteran, Dan Seagrave. House Of Dust is probably gonna be the death metal song of the year, and this might as well be the death metal album of the year. | 9 | | Vektor Terminal Redux
Aside from Cobalt's Slow Forever, I still haven't found an album quite like this. I need more prog thrash that sounds like this, right on down to the vocals. One of my all time favorites. | |
