some of the catchiest black metal I've heard. Draws from 80s post-punk, and the combination makes for something really immediate. Not necessarily "atmospheric" in the stock BM way, but still melodic and emotional, without sacrificing rawness. The guy's discography is pretty dense, but this is a good place to start.
Anyway, some nice releases from this year:
Trautonist - S/T (blackgaze)
Gilded Lily - Mongrel's Light (black metal, with some noisy post-hardcore flourishes. Less abrasive than it might sound. Actually pretty moody and infectious.)
Ashbringer - Yugen (atmospheric BM)
Numenorean - Home (post-black metal)
Illyria - S/T (post-black metal)
Sorrow Plagues - S/T (atmospheric BM)
Show Me a Dinosaur - S/T (post-black metal)
Astronoid - Air (post-black metal that somehow sounds like Siamese Dream)
Fuath - I (atmospheric BM)
