Downer Endings

the easiest list i'll ever make
1Glassjaw
Everything You Ever Wanted To Know...

"Motel of the White Locust"/"Losten" - This is a sad fucking song, you'll be lucky if you don't burst out crying when you hear it. Hearing this song is like watching a couple physically fight each other, it's not pretty to watch. It's intense as fuck, and the chorus just reeks of hopelessness. The hidden track, "Losten", does not help lighten the mood, instead feeling more like a "lost cause", further reminding you that there is no light at the end of the tunnel
2Unsane
Unsane

"White Hand" - This song describes life in a ghetto. "White hand, your brother is missing, white hand, your brother's dead" Chris moans with absolutley no color in his voice. This track is like the sinking feeling in your stomach when you know something bad is going to happen.
3Radiohead
The Bends

"Street Spirit (Fade Out)" - Thom Yorke once described this song as "fighting with the devil and losing every time". Perfectly summarizes the song, if you ask me. There's just this overbearing feeling of dread to be found here, and the guitar picking is nothing short of haunting

Document #5

"By The Fireplace In White" - The bass on this song is absolutley cold, just cold. The guitar cries that layer it add extra fear to the song, and the drums intensifies the track with it's relentless performance.
5Swans
Filth

"Gang" - Absolutley cruel, this track is, describing a story of a gang that holds a man down and rapes him. Is it a metaphor? Perhaps, although I'm not sure for what, all I know is that this song makes you physically weak after hearing it
6The Blood Brothers
...Burn, Piano Island, Burn

"The Shame" - When you're ashamed of something, you feel as if there's no way to fully make up for it. You feel as if you're forever a bad person for whatever you've done. This song perfectly summarize that feeling, with it's unhappy tone only increasing in volume as time goes on. The ending doesn't make the situation any better (hint hint)
7Local H
Here Comes the Zoo

"What Would You Have Me Do?" - A song about a man drowning in his own shame, contemplating suicide. Granted, the song itself is very beautiful, it's when you really think about the lyrics is when it loses it's beauty.
8Rage Against the Machine
Rage Against the Machine

"Freedom" - "Freedom, yeah right", the last thing said in this song. That pretty much describes the whole mood right there.
9Unwound
The Future of What

"Swan" - An overwhelming song that is flooded with noise, layered with Justin Trosper's upsetting reminder of "all I see is the end of the end".
10Foetus
Hole

"A Cold Day In Hell" - This one is pretty bleak, it tells the tale of a man during World War II, in attempt to get free food and shelter, he joins Nazi Germany, only to completely regret it when he learns about what they do to Jewish people. Because of this, he realizes that there are only two possible outcomes for his situation: he either stays with Germany, or he takes his own life.
11Alien Ant Farm
Truant

"Hope" - A song about a failing marriage, and how only hope could possibly save it
12Whitehouse
Mummy and Daddy

"Private" - Mummy and Daddy is an album that deals with domestic violence and child abuse, and the closer track is a 20 minute collage composed of interviews with victims of domestic violence, rape, and child abuse. No breaks, no music, just the words of people who, unfortunately, have experience with these subjects first hand.
