In all seriousness people, I need to keep reviewing music here consistently. I need more stuff to review, so if you don't have a serious answer for me, I suggest you gtfo. | Killerhit

I would rec your more stuff to review, but idk what your taste in music is. What else do you like reviewing besides black celebrities with musical side projects? | Friday13th
06.05.14 | You just have to listen to more stuff, dude. Particularly albums with no review yet because that makes this site more complete and less redundant. | Funeralopolis

06.05.14 | this is kind of long, but fuck it. read it if you're interested, if not ignore it. godspeed you!
The first thing you DONT want to do is pressure yourself. it's cool that your motivated to write, but if you're actively trying to push yourself, your writing will begin to suffer because of it. Take it from someone who tried too hard in the beginning to be a 'standout' only to become some user with a ton of reviews that varied in quality (and some were just down right terrible).
Surf the internet or a record store for albums that intrigue you. While it's cool to write about an album that gets ignored here and be that hero who brought attention to a new/overlooked artist, it's best to write about something that you actually feel passionate about. that's how you grow as a writer, I think. It's easier to write about music you love and then steadily begin to explore new stuff and write about that so that you establish a routine and exercise your creativity.
Right now, I'm trying to get back to reviewing regularly after a long time of inactivity and overall erratic behaviour due to school obligations, personal stuff, life, etc. etc. So I'm pretty much in the same boat as you in trying to get back in the role of the active writer I once was. My progress in that has been shit because I am so mentally drained. plus Game of Thrones and The Americans have been kicking TV ass.
What is currently working for me in stimulating my imagination is taking long walks while listening to the albums I want to write about. Dont try to think about what you want to say, clear your mind and let the album speak for itself and put the words in your head. It's a slow process, but it's works I think. If you're still trying to grow as a writer, I suggest reading up on professional reviews and seeing how they handle reviews. It's sometimes easy to take influence from the blueprints of other writer's to help mold your own ideas. I'm not saying copy their work, obviously, but focus on how they articulate themselves, as well as their flow and descriptions of the music. learn how to 'construct' a review, before attempting to write one. Otherwise you'll just end up with a bunch of paragraphs filled with opinions and thoughts that go nowhere (again, speaking from experience).
Check out some of the senior staffers for inspiration/education. for example, if you want to go for short-sweet-and-to the point look up Adam Thomas and Sobhi Youssef, if you're going for comedic/conversational kind of style try John Hanson, or if you want to study a style that's longer and shows more attention to detail try Rudy Klapper or Robin Smith. | ScuroFantasma
06.05.14 | What SgtPepper said [2]. If you want to review more obscure artists, i suggest going to bandcamp.com and finding an album that you like from there. If they aren't in the database, you can add them! Then you can bring some attention to a band that hasn't really got much, and you'll be passionate about the music because you like it. | tommygun
