| Morbid Angel Ranked (Edited)
See title. | 8 | | Morbid Angel Illud Divinum Insanus
Absolute garbage. It astounds me that it took eight years to make this pile of elephant dung. 3/10. | 7 | | Morbid Angel Heretic
Despite supposedly being their second worst album, Morbid Angel's "Heretic" isn't even remotely close to the level of shittiness
that is "Illud Divinum Insanus". The problem is just that it's not really as memorable compared to their other albums. It's still a
solid release, but it just doesn't stack up to classics like "Domination" or "Altars of Madness". I still like it, though. 6/10. | 6 | | Morbid Angel Gateways to Annihilation
I know it seems unfair to edit this list and still throw all of Tucker's releases under Vincent's, but to me, it just showcases how
great this band is. Or, well, was. Before Illud Divinum Insanus happened. Anyways, Tucker's discography isn't a bad one, and
this album is proof of how easily the other guys were able to adjust to his new style. As I said before, this album still isn't a
classic, but it's really damn good. 7/10. | 5 | | Morbid Angel Formulas Fatal to the Flesh
And now, at last, we reach the album that I underestimated most greatly. I never really got a chance to properly sit down and
listen to this LP, which is why I disregarded it originally. However, after actually taking the time to go through this album, I can
definitely see why so many people thought it deserved a higher place on this list. I know that I originally said that Domination
was the most underrated release these guys had, but damn, this is definitely more worthy of that title. 8/10. | 4 | | Morbid Angel Covenant
I'm probably gonna get trashed for putting Covenant below "Domination" and
"Blessed Are The Sick", but honestly, I don't find this album to be as amazing as
most claim it to be. Regardless, I still did enjoy this album, as this was the point
where David Vincent's interest in Satanism reached it's pinnacle, and thus the lyrics
and overall vibe of the album comes off as very evil and dark. 8/10. | 3 | | Morbid Angel Domination
Perhaps the most hated album from the Vincent era, this is probably the most
underrated Morbid Angel release with David. This is where the band dropped some of their
Satanic characteristics and opted to go for a more straightforward death metal
sound. Vincent's vocals are remarkably varied on this album, going from his
traditional grunting style into more guttural growling and fry screaming. The
atmosphere from previous albums is still here, but it feels less prevalent, and makes
more room to let Vincent's vocal work shine through. 8/10. | 2 | | Morbid Angel Blessed Are The Sick
Now, this is where Morbid Angel decided to take a hint from Autopsy and go for
slower, sludgier, more doom-influenced metal. Now, there are still some aggressive
in-your-face moments, but this album relies more on building a haunting feeling
within the listener, almost as though they are in the depths of oblivion themselves.
Vincent's vocals became notably more understandable on this album, and also
became lower in pitch. This is probably Morbid Angel's most atmospheric release,
and is a must-have for any death metal fan. 9/10. | 1 | | Morbid Angel Altars of Madness
While some may prefer the more atmospheric elements of future albums such as
"Blessed Are The Sick" or "Covenant", this album will always be, in my opinion,
Morbid Angel's finest work. It's far more raw and under produced than any later
albums, which works to MA's benefit, because this album is much more aggressive
and thrashy than anything they've done since. The dark, chunky riffing is faster,
the drumming is more over-the-top, the solos are insane, and the vocals are much
more savage. This is the album that really defined death metal as a genre, and
helped influence, for better or for worse, almost all modern death metal today.
