| Daniel Johnston songs that make me cry
I am a baby in my universe, I'll live forever~ | 1 | | Daniel Johnston Songs of Pain
Like a Monkey in a Zoo, Hate Song (Don't Act Nice also brings the feelerinos but it doesn't make me really sad) | 2 | | Daniel Johnston Don't Be Scared
The Story of an Artist, And You Love It, My Yoke Is Heavy (This one channels my inner Wojak well) | 3 | | Daniel Johnston Yip/Jump Music
Dead Lover's Twisted Heart, Loner | 4 | | Daniel Johnston Hi, How Are You
Most of the album, but especially Poor You, I'll Never Marry, Desperate Man Blues, and Hey Joe. | 5 | | Daniel Johnston Retired Boxer
Nothing here hits me that hard, but Oh No is a pretty gloomy song, and I'll Do Anything But Breakdance For Ya, Darling is just beautiful. The whole album is fairly slow and sad, really. And sorely underrated, for that matter. | 6 | | Daniel Johnston 1990
This whole album just destroys me. The church choir song at the end is just icing on the cake. Even Daniel himself cries here on Careless Soul. There's no Big Business Monkey or No More Punching Joe Around to lighten the mood, either, you just listen to it and wonder where it all went wrong. It's worth noting that his mental health was really bad around the time this album came out. | |

08.05.15 | ^ aka why his music is perfect | FirstStrikeIsDeadly
08.05.15 | Respect is inconsistent but it has some of his very best songs that don't get enough recognition. An Angel Cry is so fucking good, and Good Morning You would be great for an alarm clock. | BMDrummer
08.05.15 | the whole hi, how are you gets me every time. i only put that on when i really feel like hopeless shit, it's cathartic | FirstStrikeIsDeadly
08.05.15 | I used to not be able to put on Hi, How Are You without turning into a mess | FirstStrikeIsDeadly
08.05.15 | It's ridiculous how sometimes people say stuff like "People only like Daniel Johnston because he's schizophrenic" or compare him to Wesley Willis or whatever. How could some "talentless, overrated hack people only like cause he's crazy" write terrific songs like Walking the Cow or The Story of an Artist? Some Things Last A Long Time is stuck in my head, but not just because it's deeply emotionally affecting (Jad Fair wrote the lyrics to it, by the way), but it's just a catchy, memorable song. (Daniel wrote the music to it.) Daniel might not have the most conventionally beautiful singing voice (I personally like his voice a lot, and it undeniably adds to the feelings his music conveys), he might be mediocre at playing the guitar, he might write about the same themes a lot, and he might have serious timing issues nowadays thanks to all his medication, but he's shown brilliance as a songwriter and written some very beautiful, honest, relatable lyrics. | PappyMason
08.05.15 | Great list!! | FirstStrikeIsDeadly
