05.25.14 | Woot 3, 6, 9, and 10! 5 and 8 are cool too. |
Pheromone
05.25.14 | All of these are pretty sweet.
10 is in my top 10 as well |

05.25.14 | 2 3 5 and 6 are amazing, but I hate 1 more than life itself |

05.25.14 | 2 to 6 and 9 all rule |

05.25.14 | @Talons That happens a lot with that movie. Either you absolutely love it, like me, or you hate it. I thought it was beautiful. |
AmericanFlagAsh
05.25.14 | Does nobody love Spirited Away as much as me?
Hayao Miyazaki is a genius. |
TalonsOfFire
05.25.14 | Yeah I get what they were trying to do, and I was actually looking forward to seeing it because I usually love those kinds of movies, but it was a total misfire for me. Had some cool visuals though I'll give it that |
PitchforkArms
05.25.14 | some greats. Tree of Life i enjoyed but it reeked with annoying pretense. And for 4, kubrick is great but i think he's the most overrated director ever |
AmericanFlagAsh
05.25.14 | Yes. The cinematography was so good. Malick didn't want to use any computer generated visuals |

05.25.14 | "Talons That happens a lot with that movie. Either you absolutely love it, like me, or you hate it. I thought it was beautiful."
Do believe I actually would fall in the category of neutral. Thought it was a powerful movie and stellar to look at. Also found it kinda boring at times and it has little replay value for me.
"kubrick is great but I think he's the most overrated director ever"
Just curious, why do you think he's overrated? Is it just because of how much recognition he gets as one of the greatest ever? Or are there actual reasons? |
PitchforkArms
05.25.14 | @Guano - just don't really think he's ever made anything THAT great. He's good and I generally like him, but I feel like he's credited way too much and if someone were to see a movie by him, and not know it was him beforehand, they wouldn't "enjoy" it as much. He's one of those guys that I think people go gaga for just because of how much he is looked up to, not because of the quality of his films |
Skull917
05.25.14 | Miyazaki certainly rules! During Princess Mononoke was the first time I got my hand between a girl's legs. |

05.25.14 | Pitchfork give us your top directors |
Nud
05.25.14 | If you liked trainspotting then watch requiem for dream if you havent |
DrGonzo1937
05.25.14 | Any Kubrick film is a masterpiece. |
DrGonzo1937
05.25.14 | Requiem For Dream is genuinely one of the most disturbing and brilliant films I've ever seen. I actually own it, but I don't think I have the bollocks to watch it again. haha
If you like Trainspotting, check out his other film Filth with James Mcavoy, it's the best film he's done yet. |
PitchforkArms
05.25.14 | I don't really know if I'm really crazy for any directors, but i generally enjoy Milos Forman, Scorsese, Fincher, Nolan, Bergman, Aronofsky, Kurosawa, The Coens, Anderson, and there are plenty plenty more |
PappyMason
05.25.14 | Nice list. |
AmericanFlagAsh
05.25.14 | Lmao Skull, is that why Miyazaki rules for you? I have not watched that Nud, but I will put it on my list now. And yes, Kubrick is a legend. Love me some Wes Anderson and the Coen brothers |

05.26.14 | Tree of Life was soooo awful. |
AmericanFlagAsh
05.26.14 | I'm shocked at the amount of people who don't like LORT.
It's so epic. Was it because you have read the books?
@Lorde I tend to like things people classify as pretentious. So I guess people can hate me for that.

05.26.14 | books are boring too yea, love the world and appreciate tolkiens influence a fuckton but the dude got
a bit too carried away in his writing at times, specifically when he's being descriptive |
Rowan5215
05.26.14 | @JuustMeKB Its not the intro, its pretty much the whole damn thing except of course the HAL sections. The second section of the film was literally half an hour of nothingness, and the only thing that got established in that section of it was that the monument thingies could defend themselves by emitting high-pitched noises. Kubrick could have established that in five minutes but instead he takes fucking 30 to show the spaceship slowly advancing through space bit by bit and exercising absolutely worthless dialogue. That section alone is enough to make me dislike the film not to mention the ending, which anyone who claims to understand is probably lying through their teeth. Sorry about the rant
@pots the movies of LOTR are far better than the books, tbh |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.26.14 | well, the movies are horrible so that isnt saying much
honestly if im gonna watch fantasy bullshit it better metal as fuck none of this gay twinkly ass sexy hairless elf boy bullshit and hobbits frolicking through the woods holding hands holy fucking shit 3 and a half hours of pretty boys making dramatic facial expressions kill me now. the only thing good about those movies was that one elf bitch who is a babe
ill stick to game of thrones where theres lots of tits and violence and mass deaths and crazy fire bitches |
SurroundedByIdiots
05.26.14 | The LOTR movies are not better than the books! Tokien was one of the best non fiction writers of all time. The books have so much wit, folklore and imagination put into them, no other fantasy books compare to these i've ever read.
The Hobbit movies are terrible compared to the book as well. |
SurroundedByIdiots
05.26.14 | Game of Thrones has no plot after the first book. Every time Martin runs out of ideas he invents a new land or character and/or kills off a character. By the fourth and fifth book the plot is wildly unfocused between the characters, so much so that he had to break the books up and devote one to half the characters. |
Rowan5215
05.26.14 | The books are fantastic but Tolkien had no sense of brevity and no ability to edit his work. There are parts where, literally, nothing happens. The movies trimmed exactly what needed to be trimmed while keeping the emotions and storyline pretty much intact and its brilliant |

05.26.14 | List is pretty good too. For me: Toy Story 3>1>2. 3 was really well done for an animated film. It's the only one I can think of where I was close to tears (in a good way). |
