12.30.13 The Tops of 2013

The Tops of 2013

2013 turned out to be a terrific year, with great albums coming from every musical genre. In rthe end, I didn't base the list on what I listened to most, but what I thought were simply the rBEST records that I did listen to.
25Maps For Travelers
Change Your Name
24Citizen
Youth
23Run The Jewels
Run The Jewels
22State Faults
Resonate/Desperate

The Things We Think We're Missing
20Queens Of The Stone Age
...Like Clockwork
19Lorde
Pure Heroine
18Scale The Summit
The Migration
17Moving Mountains
Moving Mountains
16Daylight
Jar
15Letlive.
The Blackest Beautiful
14Kurt Vile
Wakin On A Pretty Daze
13Sigur Ros
Kveikur
12Alter Bridge
Fortress
11The Safety Fire
Mouth Of Swords
10Misery Signals
Absent Light

If you've heard of them, you know their greatness. If you haven't, and you like
heavy music, make the move and get this record.
9Lord Huron
Lonesome Dreams

Another album that I got to know while relaxing. This guy should be a household name in the near future if he keeps producing
music like this.
8 Captain, We're Sinking
The Future Is Cancelled

Captain, We're Sinking has been around for years, but I hadn't heard of them until this album. It immediately caught my
attention because of the vocal performance and overall catchiness.
7Arctic Monkeys
AM

Absolutely love this band, and this album demonstrates them at their finest.
6The Dillinger Escape Plan
One Of Us Is The Killer

Intense, chaotic, emotional, and beautiful. It's what they do.
5Night Verses
Lift Your Existence

Pure musicianship all over the place! Such a great piece of work.
4Tallhart
We Are The Same

I had never heard of Tallhart before grabbing this album on a whim shortly after it was released. It may be the
easiest album to listen to as a whole on this years list. The melodies are fantastic!
3Norma Jean
Wrongdoers

A pioneer of the metalcore genre, they are back to install greatness into a stale genre.
This is a beast of an album, and one that will be in the mix for years to come.
2Alice In Chains
The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

The group's second LP post Layne Staley is another success. I don't listen to AIC
with the expectations of what they were. They're still a great rock band, and for
that, they land at #2.
1Protest The Hero
Volition

This just happens to be their best work-to-date. A blend of all things awesome in
the world of rock and metal music.
