Disappointing Albums From The Past Few Years

These albums were highly anticipated on my behalf, but when these albums were released they rjust weren't right and yes, most of these if not all of these are metalcore bands. I chose these rbecause these bands did actually show some promise during earlier work but now I feel like have rgone off the deep end.
1Betraying The Martyrs
Phantom

Breathe In Life was actually in my opinion a very solid album from a relatively unheard of
band. When I heard samples of this album before it was released they showcased the same
kind of fast experimental style that was in their previous effort. However when I listened to
the whole thing was just a bunch of weird attempts and a djenty style and strange sounding
clean choruses that didn't fit with the songs. And the last album did use quite a few
breakdowns but they were at least used in moderation and at appropriate times. This album is
just one big breakdown fest.
2Upon A Burning Body
The World Is My Enemy Now

The World Is Ours was a great and just really fun deathcore album. Lots of all over the place
drums and some good riffing here and there. This newest release however does not have any
of those fun elements in it and I just feel these guys have sold out their old sound, not for
themselves, but because they want to cater towards a more generic music loving crowd. Also
possibly due to lazy songwriting.
3Born Of Osiris
Tomorrow We Die Alive

Ugh. The Discovery showed us what good use of keyboards can do in a band, but also not just
using it to provide the only interesting or melodic parts during the whole album. This next
release is just chugging the whole way through with some sweeping occasionally over the top.
The keyboards do the same job at providing some good melodies like the last album but can't
cater for this whole band's laziness.
4Cradle Of Filth
Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa

I'm not saying Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder was an amazing album or anything but at
least it still had a bit of fun to it. This album was just weird sounding. Dani's vocals were just
off and most of the songs followed the same structure and patterns. As a big Cradle Of Filth
fan I can say that this is their weakest effort to date.
5August Burns Red
Leveler

This album isn't a bad album it's just that it wasn't as good as others. Songs like Empire were
definitely high points in the album but overall it just felt a little bit bland. Still a fairly solid
effort though and they have more than redeemed themselves with Rescue & Restore anyway.
Good on ya ABR.
