Favorite 10 Alice in Chains Songs

List is entirely subjective :)
10Alice in Chains
Facelift

"I Know Somethin (Bout You)"

My reason for why I love this song is pretty simple, it's fun and catchy and probably the most unique song on Facelift, an album I'm at times a bit underwhelmed by.
9Alice in Chains
Dirt

"Junkhead"

This song does such a great job at reflecting lead singer Layne Staley's addiction. The hypocrisy of others and in a way sticks it to those who have never been dependent to a drug (I mean I'll never understand what Staley goes though and neither will most people...) All to an awesome guitar line. With an even better musical set up, this would probably be sitting in my top 3, but the lyrics shine way more than the instrumentation I guess.
8Alice in Chains
Jar of Flies

"Swing on This"

Why the hell does this song get so much hate when it has AiC's second best bass line and cool harmonies? Honestly I really like the lyrics too, definitely a discography highlight for me.
7Alice in Chains
Alice in Chains

"Sludge Factory"

Probably one of AiC's dirtiest guitar lines and it's loaded with cool solos and that haunting "your weapon is guilt" part.
6Alice in Chains
Dirt

"Rain When I Die"

It easily has AiC's best bass line, is filled with raw emotion, and overall has a huge epic feel to it. Honestly if this was Dirt's closer, rather than an early track, the album would be even better.
5Alice in Chains
Dirt

"God Smack"

Layne's strange vocals in the verses and the crazy riff make this certainly my Dirt song and my favorite heavy AiC song in general. "What in God's name have you done?" geez so heavy even in theme.

Alice in Chains

"Shame in You"

AiC's memorable guitar lines aren't always just heavy riffs, honestly this is easily the best song on their s/t. The atmosphere of it all is just so pleasing and filled with remorse to a point where it's beautiful.
3Alice in Chains
Sap

"Got Me Wrong"

Everything about this song is perfect. From the light catchy guitar line, the heavy bass line, the iconic chorus. Honestly, I wish AiC had made more acoustic music because they're so damn good at it.
2Alice in Chains
Jar of Flies

"Nutshell"

Both of AiC's eps have these soulful reflective moments that are so intense and this song in particular is one of the the best doing this. Emotional, sweet, and vulnerable. "My gift of self is raped, my privacy is raked, and yet I find repeating in my head that if I can't be my own, I'd feel better dead." is single handedly by favorite AiC line. And that ending guitar solo is one of their most emotional.

Sap

"Brother"

Very few songs get me to invoke strong emotions, but this is one of those few... everything from the psychedelic vocal effect on Layne's voice to Ann Wilson's backups (that's right I actually like those) to the twangy guitar parts and bongos are just so cool. Plus I used to find the lyrics somewhat relatable and even grew a bit of an attachment to them back when I was in my grunge phase years so, so it's easily their most nostalgic for me. Hell, this song is one of the many reasons I find subjectivity in music so important because when laid out objectively, this might not even make their top 10, but for me it's without a doubt my #1.
