| 2010s Recs (Punk, Prog, Metal, Folk)
I must admit I'm having a really bad time trying to get into today's music r(especially alternative, rindie, post-hardcore and metal) and as a 19-year-old rlad I find it a little frustrating... I am a huge rfan of what you call "dad rock", rprog rock, folk, psychedelic but also punk and this list shows the r2010s ralbums I liked/kinda liked (3.5+): most of them are folk/punk but there are ralso other rgenres I'm not really fond of so I thought that maybe you could rmake me change my mind. Rec rme anything worth listening (from the 2000s ras well if you want) | 1 | | Frank Turner Tape Deck Heart
One of my favourite songwriters, anything similar? (Already tried with the Gaslight Anthem
but nah...) | 2 | | Dropkick Murphys Going Out In Style | 3 | | Gogol Bordello Pura Vida Conspiracy | 4 | | The Tossers The Emerald City | 5 | | Talco La Cretina Commedia | 6 | | Man Man On Oni Pond
Really interesting band, I "accidentally" saw them live in November and started digging
their discography since then. I can't say they're among my favourites as the following
bands but still I find their experimental roots quite interesting. | 7 | | Animals As Leaders The Joy Of Motion
The thing I can't really stand about progressive metal bands are the vocals. These guys'
albums are all instrumental and even if they are VERY complicated, their skills are superb
and I appreciated the jazz fusion influence in here. | 8 | | Grouplove Never Trust a Happy Song
I don't really know what made me like this thing as I usually dislike indie stuff. Somehow
this record is pretty catchy and fun to listen to while their second one was a bit of a
disaster musically speaking. | 9 | | Trophy Scars Never Born, Never Dead
I listened to these guys today for the first time as I was waiting for (and still I am)
Spotify to upload their new release which caught my attention while it was on the
homepage these days. I can't say I loved this EP but I found it intriguing and it's the
album that brought me here to ask you guys to rec me more stuff that I might enjoy... | |

04.27.14 | Here are some essential modern (2000s-2010s) prog albums:
Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing
Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream (yeah it's 1999)
Gazpacho - Demon
The Pineapple Thief - All the Wars
Anathema - A Natural Disaster
Rush - Clockwork Angels
Opeth - Heritage
Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory
Nosound - Afterthoughts
Plini - Sweet Nothings
Transatlantic - Bridge Across Forever
to keep it short
I'll let others rec you punk, folk and metal, though | MeatSalad
04.27.14 | Anglagard | Artuma
04.27.14 | "Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream (yeah it's 1999)"
like lightbulb sun didn't exist
awesome folk punk here:
andrew jackson jihad - people who can eat people are the luckiest people in the world | Onirium
04.27.14 | @Artuma: Yeah, but Stupid Dream is better | Artuma
04.27.14 | yeah, but no | Onirium
04.27.14 | In quality they're pretty equal, but Stupid Dream is more focused and enoyable as a whole | Artuma
04.27.14 | definitely no, stupid dream is great but it doesn't have the classics lbs has (hatesong and russia on ice, cmon)
anyway, porcupine tree has a damn great discog | Onirium
04.27.14 | yeah, probably one of the most solid discogs among modern rock bands imo. Have you ever heard the full version of Even Less? It becomes one of their best songs | TwigTW
04.27.14 | Haken - The Mountain | Artuma
04.27.14 | nope, only the version on the album, and that's the one that counts when comparing the albums. but i guess i have to check that full version at some point, haven't listened to pt in ages | IronGiant
04.28.14 | lightbulb sun is my favorite work of the group. the t/t especially rocks and 4 chords is fun. I really enjoy that album but despise the band and steven wilson particularly as a whole. Ever since that whole burning the iPod thing from his insurgentes release, he really comes off as a pompous dickhead | Onirium
04.28.14 | My favorite PT will always stay Signify, though. It's like the perfect bridge between their earlier stuff and their newer stuff. I actually like all of their albums, though |
