06.05.15 | The Depths of Doom Tournament is for anyone who’s into acquiring the taste for relatively unknown doom metal albums.
To participate users must suggest a doom metal album with less than 30 ratings that they think is a classic by posting it on the comments along with where it can be streamed and a short blurb on why it's so fantastic.
Slots that haven't been filled will instead have Dean Blunt-Black Metal on them.
Before we start here are some rules:
1.The focus of this competition is doom metal, the albums can be fusion genres like stoner-doom, death-doom, black-doom, etc. but the emphasis must be placed on the doom.
2.If you have suggested an album, you have to participate in all of the matches. Don't be a dick who only dicides to only show up when his album is involved.
3.Albums must have under 30 ratings when being nominated
4.You must hear both before voting for any match
5.Alt accounts are not permitted and those responsible will be shot on sight
I'll gladly answer any and all questions |

06.05.15 | nice... can we start putting albums down now? If so,
Arcana Coelestia - Le mirage de l’idéal
"Duskfall" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4gbo_xrgNI
most beautiful funeral doom you'll ever hear |
Flugmorph
06.05.15 | i'll give you Corrections House - Last City Zero (25Votes)
this is an really interesting album as it combines industrial elements with a big slap of doom, psychedelic, experimental, noise and sludge. (scott kelly from neurosis on vocals and guitar).
its a (near) classic for me. only thing that holds me down to rank it higher is that i doesn't know it that well.

06.05.15 | nice, thx mane. |

06.05.15 | @TheSpirit the question is if the entire album streamable, we don't need the link right now, but when the round with your album comes it really will matter
@Flug no prob |
Flugmorph
06.05.15 | so how does the contest work |
emester
06.05.15 | Had the same album in mind spirit. Haha
In that case I'll just go with Runemagick - Enter The Realm of Death. Stellar death-doom that sounds more badass than somber.
May lean a bit on the may lean a bit on the death metal side but I think theres enough doom to do the job |
SharkTooth
06.05.15 | @Flugmorph
the contest will start once all the blank spaces have been filled, then every 2 days there will be a match between 2 albums where users will vote on which they think is superior, the winner will then go on to the next round and so on until we have a winner |

06.05.15 | this is such a marvelous idea |

06.05.15 | Dark Millennium - Ashore the Celestial Burden
An absolute doom/death classic for all of the reasons listed in my review of the record.
Dream Death - Journey Into Mystery
One of the only ever successful doom/thrash hyrbid records ever, the mid-paced thrashy riffs make the doom passages so much more crushing when the speed shifts.
Paramaecium - Exhumed of the Earth
HUGE, groovy, heavy riffs, and oddly enough, Christian. Possibly the second best death/doom record after my first nomination.
Morgion - Solinari
Very dark, ominous doom with both harsh and clean vocals that has the atmosphere of a black album, but plods along through some eerie and hauntingly beautiful tunes.
Desire - Infinity... A Timeless Journey
More doom with black metal influences and aesthetics - very melodic and beautiful while managing to be rather foreboding and dark.
The Foreshadowing - Days of Nothing
The modern day 90's Katatonia with killer production and excellent songwriting.
Dolorian - Voidwards
One of the most sinister sounding albums ever made, this is evil sounding stuff that is extremely slow and hypnotic. It doesn't quite cross into the realm of funeral doom, but it's definitely not going anywhere in a hurry.

06.05.15 | Old Witch - Come Mourning Come
A perfect fusion of the monolithic heavyness of sludge/doom with the hateful venom of black metal

06.05.15 | @flugmorph thanks, but all credit goes to Friday13th for the idea
@JasonCarne you can only choose one album, sorry dude |

06.05.15 | DOOM yeah! I'll have to give this some thought. Quick question: does proto-doom count? Like if it's Sabbath level from the 70s can we go there? |

06.05.15 | takes about 40+ days lol |
Gameofmetal
06.05.15 | I'm a doom newb but I happen to have an entry on hand.
The Slow Death - Ark
Monolithic funeral doom/death with one tear inducing melody after another. The contrasting guttural death growls and soaring female clean vocals are the perfect icing on this very long but very worthwhile cake. |
Keyblade
06.05.15 | Eternal Sorrow - The Way of Regret
really dark death/doom with heavy use of keyboard synths and occasional female vocals. The Twilight of Life especially is such a great song |
SharkTooth
06.05.15 | @SCREAM Will keep that in mind, but if things do get too long there's always the double/triple elimination round |
Keyblade
06.05.15 | oh an album that you consider a classic. in that case, Funeral's Tragedies is a funeral doom classic, and only has 26 votes, so that one. laid the groundwork basically for modern funeral doom, but is unique in that the lead vocals are operatic female vox alongside guttural growls which also made its mark on the gothic scene with the whole beauty and beast vocal stylings |
SharkTooth
06.05.15 | done |
emester
06.05.15 | Sorry bout this but I want to change my entry. Would like to change my entry to Colosseum (FIN) - Chapter I: Delirium. This funeral doom record is absolutely colossal blending the beautiful, the crushing and a suffocating sense of dread to create a fantastic end product |
SharkTooth
06.05.15 | you can change it all you like before the competition starts, I'm not busy |

06.05.15 | In other news: we are halfway there |
Hyperion1001
06.05.15 | asunder - a clarion call
organic, disengaged death/doom from the depths of some unknowable void. crawling riffs and eerie atmospherics make for a borderline funeral doom album that is dynamic but still filled with crumbling despair and esoteric despondency. |
MoosechriS
06.05.15 | black demon rites - motmanniskan
Come my fanatics era electric wizard worship with a nasty blackened sludgy feel to things. |
SharkTooth

06.05.15 | Black Shape of Nexus - Negative Black
BSoN are a German group who play a hybrid style of music that combines Drone, Doom and elements of Sludge. They began their career as a pure Drone/Ambient project and recorded two albums that sound like Sunn O))). Their 3rd album was entirely different. They decided to keep the drone effect and use it within the logical structure of a "normal" song. It sounds like if Sunn O))) made a dark ambient album filled with enormous drumming, monstrous grooves and minimalism. The riffs are quite spectacular, simple and powerful and the vocals sound terrifying. A relentless album to say the least. Highly recommended. |

06.05.15 | Paramaecium - Within the Ancient Forest
Solid stab of death/doom with clean male vocals, growls, awesome female/operatic passages and classical instruments such as harpsichord and cello. Highly atmospheric and representative of the era it was released.

rockandmetaljunkie
06.05.15 | shit, I had already made a list of at least 5 albums that I would recommend. Can I at least post them and share my opinion with the rest of the users ? I know I can write reviews for each one of them, but a soundoff is always a quick and safe solution. |
SharkTooth
06.05.15 | @Balerion yeah but I deleted that post when I realized you wrote "psychedelic doom nightmare" as the blurb (that was dumb of me) |
SharkTooth
06.05.15 | @Rockandmetaljunkie
yeah you can, but none of them are going to be added to the competition
with that said you are free to change your album at any time before the first match starts |

06.05.15 | Veni Domine - Fall Babylon Fall
Imagine Queensryche turns to God and goes DOOM. Not only is this a landmark in progressive doom metal, it boasts the first Christian metal epic "The Chronicle of the Seven Seals." Lyrically, no one escapes unscathed from the declarations of doom, including Jesus, fools, mankind, and of course...SATAN! |

06.05.15 | @Balerion thanks, I might need that luck
Anyway we're down to the final 4 spots, so if anyone has been planning which album they were going to nominate they'd better make it quick 'cause I'm not adding any more after this list has been filled |
Friday13th
06.05.15 | Thanks manosg! I almost picked Material Sanctuary because it's probably doomier, but Fall has much better hooks. BTW I've had your pick on my listening list for a while. |

06.05.15 | I'm not changing my pick, it's prob the best I have to offer.

06.05.15 | Hey neat, one of my other picks made it in here anyway (the Dolorian album). Glad to see Paramaecium on here, even though it's not their best. |

06.05.15 | Demon Lung - The Hundredth Name

06.05.15 | ok, but I believe most of the guys who made the suggestions will probably vote for the album of their own choice |
SharkTooth
06.05.15 | that hasn't happened with any of Friday's lists(I think) so I doubt it
(but yeah there is a first time for everything) |
Friday13th
06.05.15 | Probably so but each match is one-on-one, not everyone choosing their favorites of the bunch. At most only the 2 out of 20 votes will be biased at any one time so it works fairly. |

06.11.15 | Alright so I think I may have found one of my all time favorite funeral doom records. If possible switch my entry to...
Sol - Let There Be A Massacre : A phenomenal funeral doom record that feels as sinister as it is crushing. Dont let the color of the album cover deceive you; this is one hell of a dark ride. Also helps that the vocal performance sounds sounds plain demonic. So yeah, this is amazing. |
