| Concerts Of 2013
Didn't go to that many concerts that year, but the ones that I did were very enjoyable. Right rnow, I'm planning on going to a lot more in 2014, roughly one per month for the first half of the ryear, although that is not set in stone. Here's who I have seen this year. *Note my rating system ris pretty weird; a 10 would be it cannot get any better, and 1 meaning it was absolutely awful rand regret going. A 5 would basically mean it was a free (or cheap concert) enjoyed myself but rthat was it. 6 and 7's will probably be the most common rating and that doesn't mean I didn't renjoy it, I did and it was great. Only one concert I've been to has been given a nine, so keep rthat in mind when you see the ratings. | 1 | | Volcano Choir Repave
Saw these guys during their homecoming show in Eau Claire, Wi back in October. So
far it has been the best concert I have ever been to, and will probably remain one of
the best I will ever go to. It was really cool since the lead singer, Justin Vernon (of
Bon Iver fame) is originally from Eau Claire, and a lot of the other band members
have some pretty strong Eau Claire ties. It was one of the most emotional and moving
concerts I have been to and was truly incredible. 9/10 | 2 | | Jeremy Messersmith The Reluctant Graveyard
I've been a long time Jeremy Messersmith fan, but haven't gotten to see him in
concert until this past September. It was a really small concert, probably about 100
people, and was done as a kind of "about the songs" type deal. He played a couple of
songs and would then talk about each one, the writing process, what he was going
through, etc. It was a really laid back concert and was immensely enjoyable.8/10 | 3 | | S. Carey All We Grow
Free concert for one of my favourite artists! He is best known as the drummer for Bon Iver, but doesn't let that limit his abilities.
He's put out one full length and one ep, and both are great. The concert was super small, like maybe 30 people, which was nice
since the night before he had performed a sold out show with Mason Jennings. It was a shorter set, with no openers, and him
ending after about 45 minutes, but it was 45 minutes of pure awesomeness. It was just Sean Carey, a guitarist, and a bassists.
Besides playing some more acoustic versions of his songs, he ended with his rendition of "I Fall In Love Too Easily" with just
him singing and the bassist shredding. As a jazz bassist myself, this was easily the highlight of the show, the whole thing was
incredible. 6.5/10 | 4 | | Lucy Michelle And The Velvet Lapelles Heat
Saw these guys for free up in Ashland, Wi. Fun little folk pop band from the cities. For
a free concert, it wasn't too bad. 5/10 | 5 | | Night Moves Colored Emotions
Also saw these guys for free in Ashland. They are reminiscent of early MGMT with
some country vibes thrown in. They but on one heck of a show, loads of energy
coming from only 3 people. They played some solid psychedelic rock and just had a
lot of fun playing it, which the audience could definitely tell. Great concert 5/10 | |
