06.02.13 | so many different names for such very minimally differing styles, it's all so confusing. will i just eventually learn it all once i fully immerse myself in electronic music, or should i live my life out just calling it all 'electronic' |

06.02.13 | There are good enough distinctions.
Sample some music from a few sub-genres and hear them a few times.
You'll start noticing the differences. |

06.02.13 | well you better immerse yourself if you plan on mastering another genre |

i already listen to a fair few electronic artist from a lot of the different sub-genres, but i'm still having trouble wrapping my head around the details. i feel if i really want to know how each genre works then i'm gonna have to go all out and just jam as much electronic is possible for a while and read up on the different genres and stuff. its always just so time consuming to fully immerse yourself in a genre you know, i kinda just always dipped my toe in a wide variety of electronic for ages but i think it's time to go all out |

06.02.13 | Eh, it's not like I can differentiate between all the thousands of metal subsubsubgenres. Just listen and learn along the way. |

06.02.13 | most metal genres were pretty easy for me to learn. the only time i ever had a tough time learning genres was like learning how to differentiate hardcore, crust, powerviolence, thrashcore, grindcore and crossover thrash but even then it didn't take long to work it all out |

06.02.13 | There are serious distinctions, you'll see once you start taking a serious look at the genre as a whole. All you can do is listen and wait until it clicks. If you focus on one subgenre, you'll learn to distinguish that subgenre from the others, and it will eventually fall into place. |
