02.14.12 | I consider most of these slightly overrated... I don't really get them much either. I can see the lyrical prowess in The National and La Dispute, though, and Bon Iver's voice is incredible. However, they're not anything I'm engrossed by either. |

1 is an enjoyable and occasionally beautiful listen but not much more than that, 2 has a few good songs but in general is nothing special, 3 has never hit me and 4 is good but pales in comparison to Somewhere At The Bottom...
See where you and I differ is that I didn't feel compelled to go make a list whining about how everyone else seems to like them and how I just can't seem to feel the same way. Be confident in and compelled by your own opinions, if you wanna listen to Dream Theatre, fucking listen to Dream Theatre instead of worrying about how you can't seem to get into Neutral Milk Hotel.
Basically just be you, bro. Unless if you're trying to get wet; in that case be someone that's apparently way cooler than you. |

02.14.12 | The National and Bon Iver rely on minor key stylings... thus depressing. Also, they don't focus on lyrical meanings so much as styling vocals that seem plausible (i.e. they don't make sense necessarily) but they sound nice and neat (and rhyme).
Most of the songs that people consider beautiful are written in minor key, so that's why people like them. Also, indie bands like to use the minor key, because it separates them from other bands |
