12.21.11 | Nice this is a tough comparison, I liked both, stupid gangster shit killed 2 greats. |
Crysis
12.21.11 | I'm no authority in any way on this but I think Biggie is better. |
MO
12.21.11 | ^ that's generally the consensus |

BigHans
12.21.11 | you should do another hip hop throwdown between a tribe called quest and de la soul sometime
^ Im not a big enough fan of either to do it, dont know enough about them. Roots vs Outkast or Roots vs Cunninlynguists might be cool. |
jayfatha
12.21.11 | "I fucked your bitch, you fat motherfucker"
-Tupac |
taxidermist
12.21.11 | I like both of them, but I'd have to go with Pac. Listened to a lot of Pac when I was a kid. Also, CALIFORNIA LOOOOOOOOVE. |
omnipanzer
12.21.11 | nice rundown Hans. |
FrankRedHot
12.21.11 | I've found that this argument isn't easily settled. Both rappers had different styles, flows, beats, etc etc. The thing that grabs me about Big is the fact that he was a storyteller. Pac was a great poet, and marketed himself better than Biggie(which might be the reason why Pac is more iconic), but everything about Biggie seemed to be honest, while Pac seemed to be more of a marketing ploy for Death Row.
I'm tired, so I don't even know if that made any sense. |
BigHans
12.21.11 | makes sense Pit. Basically it comes down to the fact Biggie was a better rapper, Pac was a bigger force. |
Hawks
12.21.11 | Overall I'd say I like Pac more, but Ready to Die would be my favorite out of anything I've heard from both of them. I just kinda like Pac's style more, although Biggie did have a flow that is only rivaled by Big L or maybe Big Pun, at least from what I've heard. |
Tyrael
12.21.11 | You're right
Wait, Hans is right? The end of the world must be nigh |
Scoot
12.21.11 | jay-z vs. nas will be interesting |
FrankRedHot
12.21.11 | Pac was a bigger force mostly because he released more than two albums. People forget that Biggie only released 2. |
Scoot
12.21.11 | but who's to say that biggie wouldn't have went down the same path to obscurity that nas went down? he
was certainly on his way with life after death having a more club-oriented feel, which is what nas
ended up doing.
i like bigs better btw |
FrankRedHot
12.21.11 | Nas is obscure? Since when? |
Scoot
12.21.11 | he was, for a few albums. after i am... and nostradamus he was pretty much the laughingstock of the hip hop world until stillmatic came out. |
FrankRedHot
12.21.11 | Ummmmm....... no? |
Scoot
12.21.11 | perhaps obscure was a poor word choice. |
FrankRedHot
12.21.11 | I mean, I'm not debating that Nas fell off for a few albums after It Was Written, but he was still one of the biggest names in hip hop during that time. I remember Hate Me Now being on MTV(yes MTV used to actually play music videos) at least 3 times every hour. |
Scoot
12.21.11 | i was talking more about with his peers than with the mainstream tv markets. |
FrankRedHot
12.21.11 | Dude, Nas was still getting respect from his peers even in those days, minus Jay-Z. Both I Am and Nastradamus were both terrible, but they both had several features from some of the 90's biggest hip hop artists. |
FrankRedHot
12.21.11 | And just so you know, obscurity means you've basically been forgotten. Nas was never forgotten. |
Scoot
12.21.11 | that's true. getting back to my original question, though: do you think that biggie would have been able to maintain the same level of quality that ready to die and life after death had, or would he have dropped off (like nas did)? |
Scoot
12.21.11 | and i know what obscurity means, it was a poor choice of words on my part. |
FrankRedHot
12.21.11 | "that's true. getting back to my original question, though: do you think that biggie would have been able to maintain the same level of quality that ready to die and life after death had, or would he have dropped off (like nas did)?"
I don't know. Most musicians/artists/rappers will have at least one album that EVERYONE doesn't enjoy. It's almost inevitable. I'd like to think Biggie wouldn't have, but who knows? |
heyadam
12.21.11 | awesome list, I love Pac the most though. He's definitely my favorite rapper |
BigHans
12.21.11 | its likely he would have, I mean, nobody is great ALL the time. Except for The Hold Steady and AC/DC |
Tyrael
12.21.11 | 'I mean, nobody is great ALL the time. Except for The Hold Steady and Motörhead'
fixed |
BigHans
12.21.11 | lol Lil B |
Iamthe Nightstars
12.22.11 | The # 10 "consistency" one is kind of pointless. If Biggie didn't die he probably would have eventually released some mediocre albums as well. Their posthumous releases are also irrelevant. |
greg84
12.22.11 | I think that DEPTH is really important in any kind of music, not only in hip hop. Great list sir. |
Inveigh
12.22.11 | I like Biggie quite a bit more than Pac, but both are legends for sure. |
BigHans
12.22.11 | Their posthumous releases are also irrelevant.
^ No theyre not. |
Iamthe Nightstars
12.22.11 | How so? It's not like either artist had a choice in what to be released if they even decided to release those certain songs. |
Urinetrouble
12.27.11 | 'you should do dr. dre vs ice cube next
and one of the categories should be "who was the biggest sell out?" |
Iamthe Nightstars
12.27.11 | easily... |
BigHans
12.27.11 | Cube is the biggest sell-out but he was a much better MC than Dre and absolutely killed him on No Vaseline.
As far as the argument that their posthmous stuff shouldn't count: its music that they made. It counts. |
BigHans
12.27.11 | r u still down?, still I rise, and until the end of time have some great tracks.
^ Youre right Andcas, each one has about 4-5 good songs. Too bad the albums are 20+ tracks each. |
SitarHero
12.27.11 | Tight list. I've got the same deal. I like Tupac more, but Biggie was probably better. |
MetalMassacreAttack
12.29.11 | Outstanding comparison |
BigHans
12.29.11 | thanks dude |
Tupik
03.13.12 | Very good breakdown, I like the categories and the number of points attached to them, and I agree with
the winner in each categorie and the overall winner as well. Extremely well done. |
