12.19.11 | Heavy Rain is one of the coolest games ever made. I like to think that I beat the game with the best ending, because my favorite character was the only one that survived. So what if he was a killer. |

12.19.11 | I made it through with Ethan and Norman alive, I had Madison jump out the window and kill herself by accident
maybe I'm gullible but I was truly surprised by who the killer turned out to be |

12.19.11 | Yeah, I was surprised too. I managed to make it through with only the killer being the one that died. |

12.19.11 | had this game. 1st playthrough was cool, game idea is cool, there are some major plot holes though (which are a big deal for a game whose focal point is the plot) |
Deviant.
12.19.11 | Despite it having so many endings after I played it once I really didn't care about doing it again. And yeah the plot holes are terrible. Like, how Ethan's blackouts are created to allow his kid to be snatched, and then they just completely stop |
climactic
12.19.11 | the whole first half basically makes no sense. why does he have origami every time he wakes up? and the whole scene where *spoiler* kills the old guy in the antique store was just ridiculous |
Deviant.
12.19.11 | Yeah, that's such a cop out |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | @Climactic
the killing of the guy in the antique store isnt ridiculous
some people thought ethan having that recurring dream was related to something supernatural but if you saw in the beginning he gets worried when he sees a newspaper with the origami killer in it and since hes already pretty fucked up mentally at this point from a coma and emotional trauma he began having hallucinations and recurring dreams |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | but then again always come to sputnik if you wanna see people try to justify talking shit about a masterpiece |
climactic
12.19.11 | i wasnt talking shit i was saying my honest opinion on the game calm down |
climactic
12.19.11 | plus that does not explain why he has origami in his hand whenever he wakes up, they might as well have taken away the origami imagery completely |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | i was just answering the question you asked about ethan and the origami thing it actually does make a lot of sense giving his emotional state and physical condition, especially right after reading that article in the newspaper. Its supposed to be believed that during one of these mental blackouts that he made the origami himself during a hallucination. |
climactic
12.19.11 | thats never even alluded to |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | no, i disagree it adds another level mystery to the game. that was my interpretation and many others that during one of these blackouts he created the origami himself. Just given his terrible mental state and sleep apnea and all those things combined, something like that could really happen. It makes sense |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | @Climactic it doesnt need to be alluded too your missing the point, you can just assume that given his deteriorating mental state and given the fact that he just read the article about it, him creating some type of origami during his hallucination is probably what happened. Im not the only person whos realized that btw bro but ok |
Deviant.
12.19.11 | "some people thought ethan having that recurring dream was related to something supernatural "
Supernatural? Who the fuck thought it was supernatural??
"but if you saw in the beginning he gets worried when he sees a newspaper with the origami killer in it and since hes already pretty fucked up mentally at this point from a coma and emotional trauma he began having hallucinations and recurring dreams"
Yes, but that doesn't account for the blackouts that he has that really only serve as a plot point to allow the kid to be taken. As soon as that happens they immediately stop. And as for the whole him waking up with origami in his hands: sure, there's a small section where he considers the fact that he might be the killer himself, it really only serves as a way to stretch the game's length out, because it's never mentioned again and becomes even more irrelevant when the detective's background work rules him out almost instantly |
climactic
12.19.11 | of course the player can make their own guesses on why it happens, but without it being resolved in the game i'm led to believe it was something stupid thrown in by the devs |

12.19.11 | Well, from a psychological standpoint something as big as his son being kidnapped would easily be enough to change his mindset and stop the hallucenations, the constant adrenaline and gravity of the situation became apparent to him which probably helped get back to reality, which also, makes perfect sense
but ok
There are a few tiny plot holes here and there (that, not exactly being one of them), but despite that its one of the most engaging, well thought out, gripping video games ever made |

If you kidnap and murder kids, for years now, you saying you don't take the time to monitor every little detail? That's how you become a serial killer, you DON'T GET CAUGHT by taking care of the details. Following Ethan is just common sense. It's convenient for OK that he experiences blackouts and oppurtune to place the figure in his hand, it's never mentioned that OK has done this every single time Ethan has blacked out, therefore he doesn't need to watch his every move, just the ones that matter...
You really think that destroys the argument? How do you know what would be important unless you monitored him ALL THE TIME? |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | that ones debatable, but again I don't think shelby placed the origami with ethan, so that argument is not relevant to me really. but lol some of the writers arguments are really cut apart by that user |
Deviant.
12.19.11 | *****SPOILER********
If we assume that Shelby is operating under the pretense as a PI and is really only grabbing all the letters and stuff that he mailed to the victims families so he can erase anything that might somehow link back to him (and this is obviously the case as he burns them all once he gets a hold of all of them) why then does he even bother to go after the rich guy's kid? It's just put in there so there's something for that character to do |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | the whole point of that section was pretty much because he knew the kid was weak and was trying to figure out if he could possibly frame him, or something of the like
so again
I disagree

12.19.11 | game was an emotional rollercoaster |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | @climactic I disagree, a lot of it is what a more realistic situation would be, and furthermore what the writers ideal situation would be, its more personal bias in some of those arguments rather than an analysis of actual plot holes. going through the game myself it did have a few but some of the things the guy put on the list are either untrue or not plotholes
deviant your whole diving into the argument was a giant article by another writer lol |
Deviant.
12.19.11 | Uh no, that was my query. If someone else mentioned it as well, there's probably a rather obvious reason why that is |
NeutralThunder12
12.19.11 | come on man some of the shit he wrote as arguments as actual plot holes are ridiculous. its not that the game doesnt have any, its not perfect in the writing department fully but what a fucking thrilling and epic ride it was. great character development too, and all the trials with ethan were REALLY intense. the holes in the plot are there, but none were too great to bother my experience with it at all. Despite any plotholes what I loved is that it really did have a more interesting story and less cliche characters then a normal murder mystery novel would have- it sets it self apart. Especially the twist at the end, I didnt really see it coming. I only thought once through playing it could have been him, and the way they presented the scene with that at the end was brilliant. fanboy out |
