The Greatest German Metal Bands

In my opinion these are the greatest German heavy metal bands.
1Scorpions
Love At First Sting

The most successful and influential German heavy metal band. Their longevity, talent, classic releases and memorable
live shows makes them an easy choice for number one. Classic line-up: Klaus Meine, Matthias Jabs, Rudolf Schenker,
Francis Buchholz and Herman Rarebell. Favourite album: Love At First Sting. Favourite songs: Coming Home, No One
Like You and Still Loving You.
2Helloween
Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. 2

The most influential European power metal band. Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt. 1 & 2 are among the best heavy metal albums released in the 80's.
Classic line-up: Michael Kiske, Kai Hansen, Michael Weikath, Markus Grosskopf and Ingo Schwichtenberg. Favourite album: Keeper of the Seven
Keys Pt. 2. Favourite songs: March Of Time, I Want Out and Dr. Stein.
3Accept
Restless And Wild

One of the most influential European heavy metal bands of the early 80's. "Fast as a Shark" is probably the first speed metal song ever
recorded on vinyl. Classic line-up: Udo Dirkschneider, Wolf Hoffmann, Jorg Fischer, Peter Baltes and Stefan Kaufmann. Favourite album:
Restless And Wild. Favourite songs: Love Child, Fast as a Shark and Restless And Wild.
4Kreator
Extreme Aggression

The most successful and influential European thrash metal band. Classic line-up: Mille Petrozza, Jorg Trzebiatowski, Rob Fioretti and Jorgen
Reil (Ventor). Favourite album: Extreme Aggression. Favourite songs: Some Pain Will Last, Coma of Souls and People of the Lie.
5Sodom
Agent Orange

Among the Big 3 of German thrash, Sodom is one of the most influential European extreme metal bands of the mid-80's. Classic line-up: Tom Angelripper, Frank
Blackfire and Chris Witchhunter. Favourite album: Agent Orange. Favourite songs: Agent Orange, Tired and Red and Remember the Fallen.
6Running Wild
Port Royal

One of the most popular German metal acts of the 80's. The "love it or hate it" pirate imaginary became their most
known trademark. Classic line-up: Rolf Kasparek, Majk Moti, Jens Becker and Stefan Schwarzmann. Favourite album:
Port Royal. Favourite songs: Conquistadores, Purgatory and Raise Your Fist.
7Gamma Ray
Land of the Free

Kay Hansen's solo project soon became one of the most successful and influential European power metal bands of the 90's.
Classic line-up: Kai Hansen, Ralf Scheepers, Dirk Schlachter, Uwe Wessel, Uli Kusch. Favourite album: Land of the Free.
Favourite songs: One With The World, Afterlife and Heaven Can Wait.
8Warlock
Triumph and Agony

One of the most popular German metal bands of the mid-80's. Classic line-up: Doro Pesch, Peter Szigeti, Rudy Graf, Frank Rittel and Michael Eurich.
Favourite album: Triumph and Agony. Favourite songs: You Hurt My Soul, Earthshaker Rock and I Rule the Ruin.
9Blind Guardian
Nightfall in Middle-Earth

Along with Helloween and Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian is one of the most successful European power metal bands. Classic line-up: Hansi Kursch,
Andre Olbrich, Marcus Siepen and Thomas Stauch. Favourite album: Nightfall in Middle Earth. Favourite songs: Bright Eyes and Noldor (Dead Winter
Reigns).
10Destruction

Never was a die-hard fan but Destruction is arguably one of the most influential German thrash metal bands. Classic line-up: Marcel Schirmer,
Mike Sifringer and Thomas Sandmann. Favourite album: Probably Eternal Devastation. Favourite songs: Probably Mad Butcher, Curse the Gods
and Release from Agony.
