ValeriusTheImmortal 12.18.11	persecution mania is probably their best but every time I hear Agent Orange and the blatant Slayer rip offs it irks the shit out of me. after that I didn't check any more of them out. Kreator owns the shit out of them and was far more influential. I think you are stretching Sodom's influence a bit. they aren't influencing as much as they are influenced, imo.

Their most influential stuff is In The Sign Of Evil and Obsessed by Cruelty. I disagree when you say they "rip off" Slayer. Sodom's songwriting is closer to death metal than Slayer.

However don't forget that In The Sign Of Evil and Obsessed by Cruelty were also extremely influential to the new extreme metal scene. The first wave of black metal included bands such as Sodom, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Destruction or Bathory.

TheNotrap 12.18.11	Basically in the early/mid-80's almost all European extreme acts were extremely influenced by Venom. That's why bands like Hellhammer, Sodom, Destruction, Bathory or even Tormentor/Kreator had satanic themes. They were just trying to break boundaries and make the heaviest sound known by man. "idk what happened to these guys on the first LP" Sodom just tried to evolved the thrash/black metal formula of their first EP. "Obsessed by Cruelty" was extremely influential to the black metal scene (2 Wave). Euronymous always loved this album. He also named his label "Deathlike Silence Productions" due to Obsessed by Cruelty's opening track.

I really don't know if Sodom's demo was released earlier. But "Witching Metal" is almost an extreme experience. Angelripper was just trying to make the most voracious sound possible. "No Life Till Leather" is definitely more mature, a solid base to the first thrash metal album ever released. "No Life Till Leather" and "The Soundhouse Tapes" are the most influential demo tapes ever released.

TrantaLocked 01.19.14	Are there any good German metalcore/hardcore bands that are active out there? It seems like that genre isn't really big there, but I want to hear stuff besides power metal. I've heard and really like Rammstein, and to me they are kind of the Korn for Germany in terms of uniqueness.
