| 10 Favourite Albums Of All Time (for Now)
These are 10 Albums that have shaped the way I listen to music and are never far from repeat rron my iPod. | 1 | | Guns n' Roses Appetite for Destruction
Admittedly, I don't listen to this album all that much anymore, but it says
something when I will drop whatever I am doing (regardless of what I am
doing) and rock out to any song off this album. Every lyric, every vocal
inflection, every guitar riff, every production quirk, I have listened to this
album enough to know what is coming and exactly when. It also never fails
to bring back a flood of high-school memories. Good times. | 2 | | Alice in Chains Facelift
While I'll admit it's not as good an album as the follow-up Dirt, Facelift
managed to be heavy and angry while occasionally letting AiC's sense of
humour shine through in a way that their other albums never did. Definitely
their most "fun" listen and my gateway into the world of grunge. | 3 | | King's X Gretchen Goes to Nebraska
This album sparked an epic spending spree that ended with me buying 5
King's X albums off iTunes. Easily the biggest amount of money I've spent
on music in a single day. An incredibly rewarding album that shows that
music can be fun, intelligent, cathartic and artful, all at the same time. | 4 | | Spock's Beard Snow
I originally bought this album for a friend of mine as kind of a twisted joke
(he had albinism you see), but ended up listening to it a hell of a lot more
than he did. I listened to it almost everyday while commuting across Los
Angeles for my job and every listen brought out new details that I had
missed before. Every time I travel it's time to cue me up some Snow. | 5 | | AC/DC Highway to Hell
There's not much to choose from between Highway to Hell and Back in Black
and my favourite ACDC song (You shook me all night long) is actually on the latter, but Highway to Hell
still gets the nod because Bon Scott just seems like a much more fun guy
than Brian Johnson and makes his incorrigible hedonism seems far more
more fun and far less cynical than Johnson's. | 6 | | A Perfect Circle Mer de Noms
About as darkly beautiful an album as there is. Billy Howedel's ability to create lush and dangerously beautiful
sonic landscapes rarely ceases to amaze me. That Maynard James Keenan guy is a pretty decent singer too. | 7 | | Opeth Blackwater Park
No offense to Opeth or their fans, but you really only need one Opeth
album, and this is it. It manages to combine the best attributes of all of
other Opeth albums into one orgiastic whole. Most than a collection of
individual songs, this album almost seems to play like one long epic sonata,
with individual passages differing from each other in their intensity and
emotion. This template would also sadly come to define Opeth which every
one of their subsequent albums almost seeming like an imitation of
Blackwater Park. | 8 | | Alice in Chains Jar of Flies
Simple, sparse, haunting and devastatingly beautiful, Jar of Flies came out
of left field for Alice in Chains. A (mostly) acoustic EP from possibly the
heaviest and most metallic of the grunge big four, Jar of Flies turned
grunge from a fashion statement into an artistic statement. | 9 | | Def Leppard Vault
I was a pretty well-adjusted teenager in high school. All I really wanted to
do was party, play sports, play guitar and get girls. The angst didn't really
set in until I went to college. However, Vault was the soundtrack to my high
school years, setting the tone for all the lovesickness, troublemaking and
general tomfoolery. Eventually I outgrew it, just like I outgrew my teenage
self, but I'll always have a soft spot for it. | 10 | | India.Arie Acoustic Soul
My first college girlfriend gave me this album as a birthday present. I didn't
think much of it because \\\m/ and whatnot. However, it started to grow on
me to the point where I would catch myself randomly and awkwardly
singing lyrics from it. Undeniably infectious acoustic neo-soul vibey-ness. | |

08.23.12 | Have you tried APC's Thirteenth Step? In my opinion Maynard steps up his game tenfold in that album. | SitarHero
08.24.12 | Yeah, the singing is definitely better on Thirteenth Step and I think most of that is because MJK took
a bigger role in the songwriting process than on Mer de Noms. My preference for Mer de Noms is just a
matter of taste though.
But I cannot stand eMOTIVe |
