The heavier side of dubstep is doing well because kids like noise, they want music as loud as it can possibly get and the majority of artists within this strain of dubstep only know how to make noise, and not atmosphere. It's become a huge commercial entity, and artists have latched onto it to become more successful (Bassnectar for one, Nero as well) |

This was noted by fans at the show (I didn't attend but heard the same story many times after it), as they had seen it all before when Bassnectar previously came to town.
Is it safe to say that the mainstream view of the genre is going to be false after awhile, due to this new use of atmosphere and outside influences? |

When the average person hears the term dubstep they'll automatically think of Skrillex etc, so the common perception of the genre is wrong. But I don't know what you mean by this "new" use of atmosphere etc, that's how dubstep started off 12 years ago |

11.26.11 | either is technically correct but i just doubt when artists are putting tracks together, that they ever pick a tempo of 65 bpm and then decide the half-note gets the beat. the tempo of dubstep is usually around 130 (right?) not 65, the "big beat" feel just gives it the impression of a slower tempo. |
