10.06.11 | Wall Street has been a hot spot for protests for many many years, this is nothing new. The reason why is because it is a symbol of financial power in the world and for those protesting, a testament to the greed of corporate America. These people are not there because they want better jobs; they are there because they want jobs, they want our Healthcare to see some serious change, they want huge corporations like Goldman Sachs and BP to be held accountable for their crimes, they want the death penalty abolished because they understand that their have been several cases (notably the recent execution of Troy Davis) in which the victims were not proven guilty, they want Obama to stop playing both sides and get his shit together.... in summation, people are pissed.
oh, and for the record, working 3 jobs is not exactly something to take pride in. that just means that you are getting screwed while the richest in the country who made their riches in part because of hard working people such as yourself, have a single job and have little to no financial worries to speak of. It's one thing to be a hard-working citizen. it's quite another to tolerate that which should be intolerable. Think about the amount of things you could be doing while at your 2nd or 3rd job to better yourself in an increasingly competitive world... reading a book, learning a new language, traveling, making new friends, attending classes part-time, etc.

^ I worked 3 jobs in college to pay for college. I work two jobs now because I have a child support payment. I'm not angry at "the man." Hell, I once had a 90k a year job, and I still worked another job part time, just for extra cash/pay off bills, etc. I've also made alot of stupid decisions that were completely my own fault and I take accountability for, and I have to work extra because of them. Also, I dont buy the thing that people absolutley cannot find jobs. What they really mean is they cannot find "great" jobs. |
MO
10.06.11 | I think one of the biggest punches in the face to these protestors is the fact that the greed on wall street brought about a massive recession which fucked everyone except the richest who have safe guards in place to make sure they get paid out even more bonuses and then further get bailed out by the gov't. So a lack of regulation spurred a subpar crisis where greed took over and then they get bailed out. I can see why people would be pissed. |

10.06.11 | And to take it one step further, consider this Academy & Hans: until the market crash in October 2008, McCain was leading Obama by a substantial margin in all major polls -- WITH Sarah Palin on the ticket. If it wasn't for that crash, along with the mainstream media assault on Palin...McCain likely wins even with Sarah. Pretty crazy eh?
The Obama "phenomenon" is really extremely exaggerated. Just goes to show the power of mainstream media more than anything -- they portrayed Obama as the perfect presidential candidate that had unanimous love and support from the country, when in fact there were PLENTY of people on both sides of the aisle that weren't buying the hype. |

10.06.11 | "I think government should be accountable" pretty cool but why would anybody protest on Wall Street if they had a problem with government accountability. "We will never see wide scale election reform" correct, 1 point
"Americans have more civil rights than people of most nations" yeah lets use THIS as a baseline that's a really AMERICAN thing to say, Hans. That's totally in line with our founding constitutional principles. You're totally right dude. -1 for being a faggot.
"Increased regulation on financial institutions reeks of socialsim" -1 for not seeing how this is related to the first two and last goal. I should take off another point for using the word "socialism" in this context. Regulation does not necessarily mean redistribution.
"The govt should not be held accountable to bail people out" right only the "job makers" who took their jobs away. ^ dude, 90% of this country is not suppressed. The truth of the matter is there will always be have and have-nots wherever you go. There is no law in this country that states only a certain type of person can be rich. Anybody has the opportunity to do so. Its a matter of whether one posesses the proper skill, desire, and yes, there is a degree of luck involved at times. But there are plenty of people who got where they are because they fucking EARNED it. I don't think people should bitch about that just because they aren't at the same level. ^ investment bankers on Wall Street do not comprise the totality of the wealthy demographic in America. These people are consistently whining about the 1%. Heres a quick example on why this is retarded. Steve Jobs was probably in that 1% Steve Jobs, who created hundreds of thousands of extremely well paying jobs and influenced countless other companies to innovate and create, creating more jobs. Alot of those protesters worship him and his products. But he represents the evil 1% I guess. Are there rich people who are total greedy assholes who should be prosecuted? Hell yes. One has nothing to do with the other. I didn't say he didn't helm the creation of many groundbreaking items I just said he didn't do it himself. The USD is declining in value to a point that other countries that use it for trade (China etc) are slowly and discreetly stopping to use it. I dont feel like writing an essay about the details and shit, but a lot of people are begining to speculate that the USD will become obsolete very soon if the fed doesnt fix their shit.
