Morbid Angel/carcass Ranked

Been in a huge Morbid Angel and Carcass kick lately. I've only really ever heard the first three enough to really rank them so I won't even bother with the rest (although I still do planning on checking them out). Carcass I've always been a fanboy for.
1Morbid Angel
Blessed Are The Sick

For me this album is most ambitious of Morbid Angel's first three releases; Altars Of Madness was great and certainly an important album for the genre but for me this album is where MA really started to separate themselves from the pack. Rating: 5
2Morbid Angel
Covenant

A bit more streamlined than Blessed, Covenant somewhat is a backwards move for MA returning to a style that more so focused on speed but they still absolutely fucking nail it. I lose my mind for Vengeance is Mine and God of Emptiness. Angel of Disease is pretty sick as well and much better than the original. Rating: 4.5
3Morbid Angel
Altars of Madness

More of a death/thrash album as opposed to straightforward death metal, Altars is still a revolutionary record and somewhat hinted at the unique Morbid Angel would take with future releases. Rating: 4
4Carcass
Necroticism:Descanting The Insalubrious

Very much for the same reasons I love Blessed Are the Sick, Necroticism is easily Carcass's most adventurous outing. It has that classic (PERFECT) OSDM production, Bill Steer is a fucking riff machine and overall it is just a interesting album with top-notch compositions. Rating: 5
5Carcass
Symphonies of Sickness

For me this is very much the perfect death/grind record. Always being more a fan of the former, Symphonies features all the best elements of death metal (ugly yet memorable riffs, chaotic solos and disgusting vocals amongst others) and at times opts for the pace of grind giving the album a nice sense of urgency at times. I would probably rate this album equally with Necroticism. Rating: 5
6Carcass
Swansong

Being my first Carcass release, Swansong is a very special album for me; being one of my first metal albums with screamed vocals, Swansong's great sense of melody was the perfect thing to help ease me into more extreme pastures. I can understand why fans of Carcass in the beginning would be disappointed with this, but thinking back, how many really fucking awesome Rot n' Roll albums are there? I think people need to appreciate the fact that Carcass never did the same thing twice, and even though it may not been as "heavy" as some people wished, this album is still great and once again pushed the boundaries. Rating: 4.5
7Carcass
Reek of Putrefaction

I dont give a damn if half the time I can't hear shit, this is easily one of the most intense records of all time. When you can hear the riffs they are so primitive and energetic it just makes you break out and beat the living shit out of someone. Carbonized Eye Sockets if the FUCKING TRACK on this for me. Rating: 4
8Carcass
Heartwork

WHAT??? HEARTWORK LAST??? WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU? Stfu. Honestly this is so bland compared to the usual Carcass fare, sure it was one of the first melodeath records but that doesn't make it good, especially when albums like Terminal Spirit Disease and Lunar Strain were out around the same time and way better. Still as with most Carcass releases I still do like it, I just think it's overrated. Rating: 3.0
