09.30.11 | Ugggh this list makes me cringe. I don't like conscious hip-hop, and Brother Ali's just bad.
But if you like that scene, you MUST MUST MUST check out Gang Starr Moment of Truth. DJ Premier is the producer and the emcee is great. They basically were one of the best things to revitalize the East Coast New York scene since the Wu. |

09.30.11 | Sorry, probably should've made my suggestions more easy to read:
Gang Starr - Moment of Truth (see above)
Blu & Exile - Below the Heavens (great rapper, cool jazzy beats)
Elzhi - Elmatic (it's this amazing rapper's take on Illmatic. Check it, dawg)
Kendrick Lamar - Section.80 (weird rapper voice, fantastic flow, amazing production) |

10.01.11 | @jefflebowski - I do have Aquemini, but surprisingly it actually isn't my top Outkast material. I mean granted, it's got some amazing, amazing songs on it, but I also think it has alot of songs that don't do anything for me. I'm trying to get into some more Tribe Called Quest stuff, and I'll check out some of those others, most of which I've only listened to a few songs of |

10.01.11 | @gabethepiratesquid - Ha sorry you're not more of a conscious hip hop fan. For me, it's what I vastly prefer to other genres of hip hop, but there are exceptions. Gangsta and more hardcore hip hop don't do it for me for the most part. But I'll check out your recs. Thanks! |

10.01.11 | Seconding the Blu & Exile. Very modern sounding, but Blu is a great rapper as mentioned with meaningful rhymes so I think you'd enjoy it. Check out Q-Tip - The Renaissance. Again, intelligent rapper + nice beats. Also, classics you don't have listed:
Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs (right up there with Black On Both Sides and Outkast discog as the best of 90s for me)
Talib Kweli - Quality |
