Best Albums Of 2011

Here's my list of the best albums from 2011.rThere were plenty of great albums this year and several disappointments. rHonorable mentions include And So I Watch You from Afar's Gangs album, Mastodon's The Hunter album and Stratovarius' Elysium album.rAnyhow, below are my favorites.
1Russian Circles
Empros

These top 5 are somewhat interchangeable as I love them all almost equally but this is my current ranking if I had to choose. Insanely good! Russian Circles rarely disappoint. While there were several "post rockish/instrumental" releases this year, this was my favorite. Besting both Animals as Leaders and And So I Watch You From Afar's releases.
2Between the Buried and Me
The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues

It may only be an EP but it is one incredible EP!
3Novembers Doom
Aphotic

One of Novembers Doom's very best albums.
4Opeth
Heritage

I absolutely loved this album! I may be alone in this feeling but I was just fine with the direction Opeth took.
5Evergrey
Glorious Collision

This is definitely one of Evergrey's most satisfying releases.
6Dream Theater
A Dramatic Turn of Events

Solid work from my favorite band. It is messy at times and there are a few tracks I'm not crazy about but still this is a good release.
7Ulver
Wars of the Roses

I love anything Ulver releases. I do wish they had released Stone Angels as a separate single, as it really doesn't fit on this album. Still this is a very good release, though not on par with either Blood Inside or Shadows of the Sun.
8The Devin Townsend Project
Ghost

And Deconstruction. Two exceptional releases from Heavy Devy this year. Ghost is incredible and perfect for a relaxing day. Deconstruction is just crazy fun to listen to.
9Symphony X
Iconoclast

Another stellar release from Symphony X. I may have liked this a bit more than Paradise Lost.
10Animals As Leaders
Weightless

I'm not sure why all the fuss about this release. I really liked it. Maybe not as much as their debut, but still really solid.
