| Just Went To From A Classical Concert
My Music History professor plays for the Vancouver Island
Symphony Orchestra and we get $5 rush tickets for being
students so I went and dabbled in a type of music I know
relatively little about. The concert was an exploration of the
expansion of the Baroque form throughout Europe. It was pretty
interesting, I think I'll continue to dabble. List is digs. | 1 | | Aesop Rock Labor Days
"I did not invent the wheel, I was the crooked spoke adjacent" | 2 | | Nas Illmatic
I finally got this a couple days ago | 3 | | Trentemoller The Last Resort
soooooo good | 4 | | Kyte Dead Waves
I drummed for the first time in a little while today and I brushed away the
dust with the first four tracks of this album. Really fun to jam along to,
more people on sputnik need to get this (read Xeno's new review). | 5 | | Modern Life Is War Witness | 6 | | Look What I Did Atlas Drugged | 7 | | Portishead Dummy
I'll take some trip-hop recs if you've got them. I've heard the really obvious
stuff (Massive Attack and DJ Shadow). Mezzanine is probably my favourite
trip-hop so far if that helps. | 8 | | Cap'n Jazz Shmap'n Shmazz
The influence of this record is unbelievable, I hear bits of Cap'n Jazz in
nearly every emo band since the mid 90s | 9 | | The Dismemberment Plan Emergency & I
"The only thing worse than bad memories, is no memories at all. From the
age of 20 to 22 I had five friends; none of whose names I can recall." The
lyrics on this album really hit home for me. | 10 | | Ned Collette Future Suture
I had to add this to the database. It was only the second time I had to do
that. I'll probably throw a review up for this eventually seeing as no one
else here has it rated. | 11 | | Baths Cerulean
I respect this guy's music so much more after seeing a video of him doing
his thing live (on pitchfrok tv I beleive) | 12 | | Clive Tanaka y Su Orquesta Jet Set Siempre No. 1
Someone help Kirgasm hype this, I'm no good at that sort of thing. | 13 | | Daniel Bjarnason Processions
they're probably not even comparable at all, I don't know jack shit about
classical, but as far as 2010 classical goes, this > Infra by Max Richter, and I
loved the shit out of that album. Seriously, check this album out it's so
fucking good. | 14 | | Jim Bryson and The Weakerthans The Falcon Lake Incident
Going to see these guys live pretty soon. I wish The Weakerthans would
just go on a reunion tour instead of just playing shows in Manitoba. | 15 | | The State Lottery When The Night Comes
Thank you to Mike (mallen24, EVedder) for making me get this. I love it. | 16 | | Gold Panda Lucky Shiner
I've been digging this for like three months straight now. I'm pumped on
the tour. March 22, Vancouver, look out UHN TSS UHN TSS UHN TSS | 17 | | Sarah Fimm Karma Phala
I wish this wasn't a compilation so that I could make a "best albums of
2010" list and put this in the top 20. | 18 | | Dangers Messy, Isn't It?
As I look back on 2010, I've been coming back to this more and more. It
had no staying power with me at all when I first listened to it but now it's
getting multiple listens. | 19 | | Laura Stevenson and The Cans Holy Ghost!
I don't like Bomb The Music Industry! Laura Stevenson plays keyboards
(and sings?) for them, but her solo stuff if much different. It's still very DIY
but very folky with a little bit of an indie edge. Her voice is just marvelous
as well. I wish this were much, much longer.
......that's what she said | 20 | | Destroyer Kaputt | |

01.22.11 | I haven't made a good ol' fashioned digs list in a while | BigTuna
01.22.11 | okay okay okay okay okay okay okay okay okay okay okay
what do you mean by The Weakerthans going on a "reunion tour"?? also, many sexy albums | Aids
01.22.11 | hahahaha wow list title=win
just noticed that and I'm not gonna edit and mess up my 20/20 art, oh well | Aids
01.22.11 | I mean I wish they were, they aren't as far as I know. Well I mean, they put out The Falcon Lake Incident without John Samson and chan says they've only been playing those songs live.
So no, "The Weakerthans" are not touring. "Jim Bryson and The Weakerthans" are. So I mean it's a bit of a let down but hey it's better than nothing. | BigTuna
01.22.11 | Yeah, but I'm pretty sure they're not on hiatus or broken up or anything. And The Falcon Lake Incident is more like The Weakerthans (including Samson, listen to the background vocals) helping out Bryson. | Satellite
01.22.11 | yay for someone else whoring out 15 for once | bungy
01.22.11 | dude this list rules | Aids
01.22.11 | thanks bungy. you know it satty. tuna, I see what you mean now. I guess they aren't "broken up" they just haven't released a new LP or toured for a while. I'm not expecting to see The Weakerthans play "One Great City" in my neck of the woods any time soon. Unless they break it out with Jim Bryson (which Chan said they probably won't do) | BigTuna
01.22.11 | i will most likely die when The Weakerthans split | Aids
01.22.11 | they need to put out a new album. that would rock my world.
and I'm talking NEW new not live new. | balcaen
01.22.11 | AW YEAH
4 is grossly underrated
7/11 are chill jams
checking out 20 as we speak
your digs. they are dig-worthy. | Aids
01.22.11 | Yah Dead Waves is really really good. And it's really accessible if you ask me so people who are hesitant should definitely just go for it. If I ever conquer my homework I want to review it.
"7/11 are chill jams" again with the product placements sputnik, sneaky sneaky | zarquan99
01.22.11 | hey I just got Illmatic too. Never thought I would be so impressed by rap... | climactic
01.22.11 | " we get $5 rush tickets "
AAAAHHHH | Aids
01.22.11 | didn't you know? Rush plays every day here in Canada; they signed on when they got knighted | climactic
01.22.11 | even when they are touring the US their souls tour in canadaia | Aids
01.22.11 | yah I man I was just putting it on when I made this list and I've listened to it twice now. it's
excellent, like I really can see why it has a 4.6 avg user rating. I mean 4.6 average is huge,
Blackwater Park huge
(@zarquan) | climactic
01.22.11 | lifes a bitch and then u die | Aids
01.22.11 | that's why we get high | Aids
01.22.11 | holy I just realized that Aesop Rock is probably reffering to that when he says (in 2001, on album number one of this list) "Life's not a bitch, life is a beautiful woman. You only call her a bitch cause she won't let you get that pussy. Maybe she just felt y'all didn't have no similar interests, or maybe you're just an asshole who couldn't sweet talk the princess."
too good. I didn't even intend to point out that connection or even realize it when I made this list. | Butkuiss
01.22.11 | 1 and 7 are too too good. As for trip recs, you might like Team Sleep, Ulver's Perdition City, Ringfinger's Decimal (isn't really trip hop but damnit it's almost as good as Portishead in my eyes). Tricky is cool too. | Aids
01.22.11 | trip hop recs finally. thank you I'll check those out |
