2010's Disappointments

2010 was a great year for music. One of the best in recent memory even. However, for various reasons, I was expecting more from the following releases:
15Wolf Parade
Expo 86

Oh man I could not wait for this album to end. It's really not bad at all,
there's just nothing good about it. It leaves me cold really.
14Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra
Kollaps Tradixionales

I'm sure you all know that this band shares members with GY!BE. Well,
don't get excited. Their earlier stuff is great, but they decided to add vocals
on this, their latest album. The vocals are......not good.
13MGMT
Congratulations

OK well this wasn't really a surprise either. Oracular Spectacular was
awesome, but I think we all knew this band would be a one-album kinda
deal. There are some good songs on this though. Just nothing comparable
to the singles we all loved so much from these guys in the past.

I got this because sputnik was loving it. I don't know, it's good but nothing
special in my opinion.

OK this wasn't really a surprise. He hasn't been good since be picked up
the electric.

From This Vantage

How Lonely Sits The City is one of post-rocks great albums. This, the follow
up, is supremely disappointing and generic.

Eyes Like Brontide is one of the best albums ever. This is not.

Teenage Dream

Well I mean duh. One Of The Boys was actually a really good pop record.
This is just garbage (except for the single, good shit right there).

After I saw a video for the song Terror Eyes The Night (title since changed),
I put this on my to get list immediately. Unfortunately, said song is the best
on the album by a mile.

The fake leak was better haha. Seriously, it's pretty astonishing how
mediocre this is considering what this man has created in the past.

Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager

I really have no reason to be disappointed in this. I've never listened to
any of his earlier stuff so I can't judge this against what he's done. But, I
saw him live a Sasquatch this past summer and he put on a great show so
I thought I'd try out his studio stuff. Not for me, not at all.
4Gorillaz
Plastic Beach

I really wanted to like this. I mean, I've been a fan of these guys from the
start but I really don't like the direction they're heading here. Snoop Dog's
guest spots were really lame as well.
3Minus The Bear
Omni

Planet Of Ice is one of my 20 favourite albums of all time, so, needless to
say, I was very excited for this. Too bad it sucks. R.I.P. Minus The Bear
(p.s. if this list was ordered, this would probably be #1: 2010's greatest disappointment).
2Dark Dark Horse
Centuries

This is a side project led by Jamie Ward (ex member of Kyte, current
member of Maybeshewill). I really like both of those bands so I was excited
for this. This kind of drags though and is pretty boring.
1The Word Alive
Deceiver

This was the most popular (read: most 'dug') album on sputnik for almost a
month near the end of summer. I finally caved to the hype but it turns out
that this is just average. It could have been a lot worse considering what
sort of band they are (electro-hardcore), but just because it doesn't suck
like everything else in the scene seems to doesn't mean it deserves a 5.
