12.02.10 | 2 hates me.
actually it is slightly ironic as the 70's is my weakest argument. |
theacademy
12.02.10 | weird bc only 2 works. |
Inveigh
12.02.10 | pretty sure limp bizkit has released the album of the decade at least twice |

12.02.10 | I called 4 and 5. |
SoapySoap
12.02.10 | 5 should be rather easy to make an essay about. |
couldwinarabbit
12.02.10 | well it is pretty true. Nirvana nevermind was close but when I get journal articles for the university of cambridge saying exactly what my thesis stated it is really hard to turn down. |
theacademy
12.02.10 | tbh, unless rabbit is categorically excluding rap, to choose any album outside of the musically-inferior-yet-supremely-socially-conscious subgenre is fucking insulting. Thom Yorke can hope to muster one tenth of Talib's or Mos Def's expressionism.
Honestly the only conclusion one can draw is that rabbit is a bigot. |
theacademy
12.02.10 | unless he intentionally is using bigotry as emblematic of the 90's and 00's |

12.02.10 | i just don't think he's that smart... |

12.02.10 | 4 and 5 are actually correct hate to say it |

12.02.10 | List needs more Metal. And Classical. And Electronic. |

12.02.10 | out of curiosity, what course are you doing |
couldwinarabbit
12.02.10 | 1.) I probably listen to more/ better rap than you
2.) rap in general is an isolated phenomena pertaining to mainly North American and even with that it is mainly aimed at black populations. That being said "My Beautiful Dark Twisted fantasy" has already been compared to Kid A quite heavily so give me 9 years. |
Ovrot
12.02.10 | Oh shit.
rabbit is super serious guys. |
SoapySoap
12.02.10 | I would change the 90's to Selected Ambient Works 85-92. |

12.02.10 | cultural studies. It is a joke I just really want to get a good mark in it cause Business got hard/ I stopped caring. |
theacademy
12.02.10 | 1.) I probably listen to more/ better rap than you
I don't see how this is relevant. But ok, you probably do. This has little to do with my point.
2.) rap in general is an isolated phenomena pertaining to mainly North American and even with that it is mainly aimed at black populations.
This is a fair point, if you are excluding the genre (are you?). Regardless, my examples really don't fit the archetype. |
couldwinarabbit
12.02.10 | Well it is mainly a broad view of society. It would be easy to do one on "Black music"...which actually would have been a lot similar and more interesting...god damn it sputnik now you are making me consider restarting. |
SeaAnemone
12.02.10 | I would have gone with something a little more towards the punk or counterculture end of the spectrum for the 80's and/or 90's (Fugazi, Rites of Spring?), but I guess that would fit under your 'isolated phenomenon' like rap |
Accipe
12.02.10 | Now that I think about it Kid A was definitely more fitting for its decade than OKC. Pearl Jam "Ten" could have been a great pick if you're doing super well-known albums, and Sea had a good idea too |
Josh D.
12.02.10 | I don't like these and I hate you. |
couldwinarabbit
12.02.10 | @Sea ya when I was initially picking albums I had 13 songs but that is not only mainly a American thing but it it almost just a DC thing. And I found that the tom waits stuff really counter points the pink floyd stuff. |
North0House
12.02.10 | 90's should be Spiderland by Slint. Honestly, I do think that Spiderland is way better than anything Radiohead has ever done. Just saying. |
conradtao
12.02.10 | i actually think that 5 is more a quintessential 90s album, as it sort of brought all the technological paranoia that built up in that decade to a head; it sort of served as a bridge to the 2000s.
i'd argue that Funeral was more quintessentially 2000s, as it expressed discontent with the way things are, a sort of societal claustrophobia amplified to arena size |
theacademy
12.02.10 | "Well it is mainly a broad view of society."
yeah so basically, white, western, upper-middle class society. |
couldwinarabbit
12.02.10 | @North great album but it is not as good as ok computer nor does it really relate to the decade it came from like ok computer does
@tao ya Funeral was a runner up it is just so much more stuff has been written on radiohead so it was easier
@theacademy not to be racist but that is pretty much true unfortunately. |

12.02.10 | I smell a Radiohead fanboy... |
