Zion 11.27.10	I changed 1 from Arcana Coelestia because the album art wouldn't show up and I'm a perfectionist. Arcana Coelestia definitely needs good headphones. There are so many layers of atmosphere swirling around there that it gets to be ridiculous at times, and it's impossible to pick it apart with crappy speakers/phones.

Zion 11.27.10	I was looking at some of the older (but nicer than what I've got) Sennheiser and some are decently priced these days. And some are still almost a grand. Will look into Audio Technica now..
Satellite 11.27.10	i just use skull candy in-ears. they have decent sound and block out everything else. not super expensive either. not a huge expert on headphones or anything, though.

Zion 11.27.10	Damn Jemidu I was literally JUST looking at those. Everyone on Amazon pretty much agrees with you word for word. I might have to give those a shot. I'm skeptical that on-the-ear rather than over-the-ear phones would do the trick, but hundreds of 5 star reviews can't be wrong.

Zion 11.27.10	Yeah Josh, it's something I've been meaning to do for a long time (buy nice headphones) but it's hard to do without some kind of consensus. Especially in the $200+ price range. It looks like I might try the portapros, it can't hurt as I can get them for $30. Given that price I'll be shocked if they're as good as they are said to be.
Zion 11.27.10	I had a pair of skull candy's that lasted me quite a while actually. I eventually broke one of the wires though. I also had a pair of Koss "The Plug" plugs that actually sounded better in my opinion... that was 5+ years ago though so I'm not sure if they still make them.
Josh D. 11.27.10	I think, after reading the Amazon reviews, I might just buy the Koss ones myself since they are so cheap. If they don't turn out to be so great, I'll just go for something else.

foreverendeared 11.27.10	Maximo iP-590 iMetal isolation earphones. That is if you like IE phones, which I much prefer. The biggest problem I have with headphones is the quality. they usually only last me a few months before they break. Maximo's cords are made of like knit cord it's like impossible to break. I consider myself an expert on the subject since I've been through like 20+ in the past couple years.

Winsomniac 11.27.10	I ended up being too cheap to buy Senn's myself. I'm probably just going to get a pretty good gaming headset and use those headphones. I like to use cheap ones in any situation where I could see them potentially breaking.

Winsomniac 11.27.10	Skullcandies are pretty shit, but the warranty is quite nice. They make for a pretty good investment in cheap headphones that you can replace at minimal cost if they start to malfunction. Also, you can get the more expensive ones at deeeeeeep discounts if you know where to look.

Skullcandy are commonly regarded as trash because they either have no bass or a massive bass hump that clouds everything else, but Bose are mostly just overpriced and may be a bargain if found at a very nice price. All other reputable brands from Sennheiser, AKG, Denon, Beyerdynamic all have headphones at different price levels. Some of them may be great for the price, some may be terrible. Some may purely sound terrible. There are also a great deal of lesser known manufacturers that do great products. Point is, getting a good deal is more complicated than simply picking a brand and going with it.

pedro70512 11.27.10	I'm gonna throw my lot in. I have a pair of Yamaha S-Logic headphones and they give the best sound I've heard...great bass without sacrificing the crisp treble like in-ear skullcandys do. I think they retail for $140 or so (mine were mail-in with a yamaha P140 piano).
Josh D. 11.27.10	I just ordered the Koss Portapro and Sennheiser HD202. Total, they both came to $50. That's pretty good, and they both had good enough reviews to push me into them. If they both just don't work out, I'll see about getting some more expensive ones. I'm pretty practical though, so I might be fine. I just need them to comfortable for a while and sound at least as good as what I have now.

TheStefan 11.27.10	i love my Sennheisers. but then again i have the 555 HDs which are kinda pricey (about 100ish) but i love them. basically, as long as you stay away from earbuds, and go for brands like Sennheiser, Grado, Bose, Sony, Beyer etc. the only advice i can really give you is to stay the fuck away from Skullcandy. although they look pretty "phat" they really suck on sound quality. My friend has a pair, and my brother stupidly just ordered a pair and from a first hand experience i can tell you they gargle balls

StrizzMatik 11.27.10	If you're going to go for Grados I'd go for the SR60's or the much more portable iGrados (what I have). Sound quality is superb either way for less than $100

Josh D. 12.01.10	My Koss Portapros just came in. I was hoping they would be bigger for my ears so I could drum with them. I could still try, but it might not be as good being a bit smaller. The sound is pretty excellent though; I'm impressed. I should have the Sennheiser's tomorrow. Fuck it, I might still ask for some more headphones for Christmas. Keep in mind, I don't know anything about headphones, but I want something to cover my whole ear, be comfortable for a long time, and noice cancellation is optional. So with that stated, which are better: Beats by Dre Sennheiser HD 555 (or something close to it)

DiceMan 12.01.10	Well, unless you want overwhelming amounts of bass and listen to shitty mainstream or trance music, I'd go with the HD555's. They work well, and while they're a little chunky they definitely can go over your ears since they fit over mine, and they sound much more spacious than Beats, for about half the price of the base sets of beats I believe... Also, fun fact, the bass takes about a week to break in fully, but if you tamper with the equalizer a bit on your music players then the bass gets to just about the perfect level. Not too punchy, but it's definitely there.

DiceMan 12.01.10	Yeah Beats by Dre are the clunky little shits of plastic famous people and Asians always wear. They have them on display at most Best Buys if you are set on trying out a pair, but I really do prefer HD555's to them. Beats are more for people who think that the bass should always and forever be the central focus of music. In other words, the best friend of anyone who likes the Black Eyed Peas.

DiceMan 12.01.10	Which pair did you get? I need to get myself a set of sound canceling headphones so I don't damage my hearing. On a sidenote I should let you know this before you buy a pair, HD555's are an open headset, and they leak sound pretty bad if you get past the edge of the album cover on the ipod volumewise. Just so you know, otherwise they're perfect. Then again, I don't see why you'd be buying an open headset for loud environments anyways. I think Beats cancel sound though.

DiceMan 12.01.10	Hmm. Alright then, I'd reccomend you browse a couple of those links that got posted earlier then. Bose aren't THAT bad they just don't sound as spacious as others, and are not as cost effective. Beats are about as bad as you can get though.

Zion 03.15.11	The Grado SR-80 was my second choice after the Portapros (well, my first choice if not counting the extremely good price of the Portapros), they have excellent reviews across the board. I generally use the Koss for everything right now, but eventually I wouldn't mind something more noise cancelling as well.
