11.13.10 | Damn I really need to listen to 8 already. I got it when it came out but still haven't listened. |
crank
11.13.10 | I'm just struggling to get my head round why you'd just write a whole genre off |
Josh D.
11.13.10 | Who you speaking at? |
crank
11.13.10 | you |
Josh D.
11.13.10 | Why would I write off a genre?
I mean, if I don't like something, then I don't like it. I listen to music with electronic aspects, but that's it. And that usually consists of post rock (Lights Out Asia, Hammock, The American Dollar, etc.). |
JustJoe.
11.13.10 | Josh D. has an opinion. Stop him. |
Josh D.
11.13.10 | UH OH! |
crank
11.13.10 | But electronic has such a vast spectrum of sounds and moods and stuff idk |
Josh D.
11.13.10 | I'm sure, I just haven't heard anything I liked. I listened to dubstep once and was bored and annoyed. |
Josh D.
11.13.10 | I tried to like Boards of Canada and couldn't. Stars of the Lid has a lot of electronic stuff right? They're ok. |
JustJoe.
11.13.10 | Sometimes people just don't like certain genres. It happens. And sometimes people find a band that just makes the entire genre click for them. It happens.
I didn't appreciate the screamo genre until I listened to Gospel, and Off Minor. They're not purebreds in the least, but now I have a base that I can use to better understand the genre. |
Josh D.
11.13.10 | Yeah, I never tried screamo really until I started listening to post hardocre, for example. Since the genres crossover at times, it was an easy transition once I found Gospel and PBTT and stuff.
Black metal is another genre I can't stand tbh. There are songs or small parts of albums I like from BM artists, but it's rare. Alcest, for example. |
Adash
11.13.10 | ah man you've got to get yourself into 'electronica' - the width and breadth of it is astounding
but I'll agree with you on blackmetal. The only good bm band is emperor |
JustJoe.
11.13.10 | Agalloch was one of my gateways into that genre. But I really appreciated/liked any "black metal" that was atmospheric. I haven't reconciled things as a whole with the genre, but I really do like me some black metal. For instance, that new Woe record. I love drums. The tone/level of the drums in the mix... amazing.
I think there's enough out there for lovers of music to be able to find something they can at least appreciate in genres that aren't just fringes/fads. |
Deviant.
11.13.10 | This might be surprising but I used to really dislike all "dance" music back in the day - its only been the last 4-5 years that I've gotten into it |
Bitchfork
11.13.10 | Thought this was going to be about running shoes. |
JustJoe.
11.14.10 | Damn, that's hard to imagine. I remember, back in the day, I thought "A Death-Grip On Yesterday"-era Atreyu was the hardest, most abrasive "metal" music out there.
It's been a while, it seems. |
