Big Hans' 25 Hip Hop Favorites

So, I was kind of a hip hop fiend in the 90's, then basicaly stopped listening for about 10 years. Now I'm back listening heavily, and this is a list of my favorite albums, both old and new. This is not meant to convey the "25 greatest hip hop albums ever," although many of these would qualify.
12Pac
Me Against the World

See my review as to why. Best Track: It Aint Easy
2The Notorious B.I.G.
Ready to Die

Objectively speaking, its probably better than Me Against the World overall, and I consider it to be the GOAT, it just doesn't hit me as hard, as often. This is pretty much fucking perfection though. Best Track: Warning
3Dr. Dre
The Chronic

Its difficult to convey exactly how huge and influential this was unless you were of listening age when it came out, but this pretty much defines Hip Hop Classic. There really isn't a weak spot, except for the fact that Dre was a giant pussy in real life, not the tough guy he pretends to be on here. Best Track: Fuck Wit Dre Day
4Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
E 1999 Eternal

The rest of their catalog is pretty much hit and miss, but this is fucking elite. Haunting, intensely catchy, enthralling. Best Track: Mo Murda
5Snoop Dogg
Doggystyle

I've been bumping this for 16 years now, and objectively I know its not a classic, I just fucking love it. It IS a classic party album however. Best Track: Tha Shiznit
6Eminem
The Marshall Mathers LP

The last Hip Hop album I purchased and love before going on a genre listening hiatus. This was fucking HUGE. Best Track: Marshall Mathers
72 Live Crew
As Nasty As They Wanna Be

It might be true the reason I swear so much is because of this album. I got my hands on this as a 5th grader. So Yeah. Deliciously filthy. Best Track: Fuck Shop
8Westside Connection
Bow Down

If you haven't heard this, you need to do it now. Its an absolute crime this wasn't bigger than it was. Every song exept for one is fucking Gold. Best Track: The Gangsta, The Killa, and the Dope Dealer
9NWA
Straight Outta Compton

The first 4 tracks alone are hip hop essentials. Best Track: Fuck Tha Police
10Mac Lethal
The Original 11:11 Sessions

I just recently got into this, and lets just say it has fucking impacted me. Thanks Inveigh. Best Track: Absolutely Nowhere
11Nas
Illmatic

Duh. There really isnt a better three song sequence in hip hop history better than New York State of Mind through The World is Yours. Best Track: Life's a Bitch
12Big Boi
Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

Instant fucking Classic. Yes, I'm serious. Best Track: Tangerine.
13Eazy-E
Eazy-Duz-It

He don't slang or bang he just smokes motherfuckers like it aint no thang. Gangsta Rap staple: Best Track: Boyz-n-the-Hood
142Pac
All Eyez On Me

This would be a stone cold 5 if the second disc didn't exist, and top three material if they took the two good songs off disc 2 and replaced the two weaker ones on disc one. There is a ton of classic material here, it just gets bogged down by some filler. The great stuff is Gold. Best Track: Ambitionz As a Ridah
15GZA
Liquid Swords

Because ShadowBoxin and BIBLE are two of the best hip hop songs ever recorded.
16Raekwon
Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt II

As of right now, I'm preferring the sequel, as classic as the original is. Best Track: Black Mozart
17Outkast
Aquemini

I just dusted this off recently, as I didn't like it ten years ago. Now, I realize if for the fucking bonafide classic it is. Tough to choose a best track, but I'll have to roll with Rosa Parks.
18Atmosphere
God Loves Ugly

Another recent addition, thanks Inveigh. Minnesota ftw. Best Track: Fuck You Lucy.
19Wu-Tang Clan
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)

Almost by default. Undeniable classic however. Best Track: Protect Ya Neck
20Beastie Boys
Licensed to Ill

This always brings the lulz and nostalgia in waves. I also love the Rick Rubin production. No Sleep Till Brooklyn ftw.
21Doomtree
Doomtree

Check this out. Some of the best Minnesota stuff. Kid Gloves and the Wren ftmfw.
22Method Man
Tical

Because the original All I Need is one of the best hip hop songs ever, Mary J Blige version be damned. And BRING THE PAIN.
23The Notorious B.I.G.
Life After Death

Same Story as All Eyez On Me. If they would have made this one disc, its an undeniable, bonafide classic. Best Track: Sky's The Limit
24Public Enemy
It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us

Chuck D > You. Best Track: Bring The Noise
25Dr. Dre
2001

Its not very appreciated but this actually holds up to the orginal, although at a slightly lesser level. Best Track: Still DRE
