06.07.10 | Most people will have heard these somewhere or another but may not have thought to get them. You should do that. |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | If you are going to include Good Vibrations, you must, and I repeat, you must include God Only Knows |
BigHans
06.07.10 | I originally was going to do both but I limited it to one song per artist or half the list would have been Beatles, Beach Boys, Stones, etc. |
BigHans
06.07.10 | And Good Vibrations was recorded during the Pet Sound Sessions, but was never put on the album. Considering that album is routinely listed in the top 5 in rock history, imagine if it would have included one of musics greatest songs? |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | God Only Knows and Good Vibrations>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>better than this list.
Nah, great list dude. Nice to see someone else appreciates this music. |

06.07.10 | onnnnnne pill makes you larggggggggeeeerrrrr annnnnnnnd one pillllll makkkkkkkkkkkkes you smallllll |

06.07.10 | FEEEEEEEEEED YOUR HEADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD |

06.07.10 | Simon & Garfunkel hell ya |
BigHans
06.07.10 | Yeah Simon & Garfunkels greatest his is pretty much Gold. |
Nagrarok
06.07.10 | List wins like all your other song lists. You know what the thing with 8 is? Everytime I come across it again, I start listening and think 'YES, this song is still classic', but then forget about it in a while, until rediscovery inevitably takes place. The process keeps and keeps repeating itself, just something I have with that song. |
Nagrarok
06.07.10 | Also, 4 is stunningly beautiful. One of the purest songs ever written. |
AnotherBrick
06.07.10 | needs abba :( |
BigHans
06.07.10 | 4 is just indescribeable in its genius. It would have to be to edge out other classics like Mrs. Robinson, The Boxer, and Bridge Over Troubled Water. |
BigHans
06.07.10 | I stayed away from Disco Brick, but had I included it it would have been there. Dancing Queen is a top 5 disco track, probably #2 next to Kool & The Gang's "Hollywood Swinging." |
Nagrarok
06.07.10 | Sounds of Silence, Bridge over Troubled Water and The Boxer would be the best 3 S&G songs. |
BigHans
06.07.10 | The Boxer is one of the best lyrical songs ever written. |
Nagrarok
06.07.10 | Quite possibly. |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | excellent, excellent list. I love most of these.
also, props for for noting Striking Distance as underrated, movie rules. Color of Night is another forgotten Bruce movie from that time period. |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | Wooooouuuuldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through
Happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was nnnnneeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvveeeeeeerrrrrrr endiiiiiiinnnnnnggg
Wouldn't it be niiiiiiice
Sorry. I'm now on a Beach Boys kick, thanks to you Hans |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | nothin like the Beach Boys to brighten up your afternoon in sunny suburban Omaha ;-) |
BigHans
06.07.10 | Yeah I always had a soft spot for Striking Distance. Color of Night was pretty good too, although could have lived without a few scenes.
Ironically enough, the inspiration for this list came from watching "Watchmen" last night. Great soundtrack, Sound of Silence, All Along the Watchtower, and Times are a Changin are in it. |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | Watchmen's awesome, that was a must-have when I got my blu-ray player |
BigHans
06.07.10 | Pet Sounds is such a great album. Drugged out Beach Boys ftw. |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | I think all of Omaha is suburban, including the city.
Yea, the Watchmen soundtrack was amazing |
Zizzer
06.07.10 | Wow, a list about... music. |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | I've never even been to Omaha haha I was just giving you some intotheshit |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | It's sad what happened to them though, with Carl dying and Brian's social anxiety disorder/manic depression. They were both so talented. People need to stop leaving the Beach Boys out of the conversation when talking about how good the Beatles were. They were just as influential/good as John, Paul, George, and Ringo were |
BigHans
06.07.10 | It would not be possible to rip off a band more than this group does the Beach Boys:

06.12.10 | Oh, sorry, I just saw Oldies and Buddy Holly popped into my head. Really old stuff is Glenn Miller. |

09.09.10 | Whiter Shade of Pale should be heard by everyone |
Nagrarok
09.09.10 | Damn straight. Gotta adore that organ too. You know what you should do if you're up for the challenge? Make a list of the essential 100 classic rock songs you need to hear before you die. It would be epic.
But first do the Sprinsteen review. |
killrobotmusic
09.09.10 | Good list man... the classics paved the way for everything good these days. I would also add these: Nancy Sinatra - Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down), Groundhogs - Split, pt. 1, Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice, Neil Young - Words (Between the Lines of Age), and The Kinks - This Time Tomorrow |
BigHans
09.09.10 | Nag, might have to do that someday, that would be quite an undertaking. |
Nagrarok
09.09.10 | You and I both know you are the only man on sputnik for the job. |
BigHans
09.09.10 | the problem is its hard to define what classic rock is sometimes. You know? |
Nagrarok
09.09.10 | Well, I couldn't really define what classic rock is either, I just know what belongs and what doesn't belong most of the time. |
BigHans
09.09.10 | I mean, is Sabbath classic rock or metal? Are the Beatles latter day albums classic rock or are they still considered pop, or "60's." Know what I mean? |
Nagrarok
09.09.10 | Well, it would just be songs anyway. Classic rock isn't really about bands, but about songs. I'd say Paranoid and Iron Man are classic rock songs. Into the Void and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath are not. |
BigHans
09.09.10 | Good point. |
BigHans
11.02.10 | God this list rules. |

10.21.11 | Just thought I'd bump this list after I just heard "He Ain't Heavy (He's My Brother)" by The Hollies. Good list, although it needs something by the Rolling Stones.
Probs for having Procol Harum, Otis Redding and Jackson Browne on the list! |
omnipanzer
10.21.11 | Jackson Browne = one of my favorite singer songwriters of the era. |
JWT155
10.21.11 | Neil Diamond should be Sweet Caroline... |

10.21.11 | I'm having a migraine so i'm sorry if I'm not following. how can a list based on the 1960's through the 1970's. be so 2010?
"needs more Hans' Favorite Deathcore"
But it's an oldies list.
Sorry if this comes off a little more raw than I intended it. |

10.21.11 | I have no idea why that made me lol but it did. |
