06.04.10 | not even in the top 50 punk records ever |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | It's more post-hardcore than anything |
Mevz
06.04.10 | Pretty sure I agree with this. |
Prolapse
06.04.10 | hardcore punk |

06.04.10 | My no.1 is more cliched. I'm thinking either Zen Arcade, Fresh Fruits or Raw Power |
porch
06.04.10 | Zen Arcade isn't really a cliched choice
and it's certainly a far better album than this |
PuddlesPuddles
06.04.10 | Fresh Fruits |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | But once again, Zen Arcade really isn't punk |

06.04.10 | its definitely
otherwise we're just splitting hairs |
porch
06.04.10 | definitely punk*
|
buckfutter
06.04.10 | It has punk elements, just like most post-hardcore and emo, but it's not punk. If we are talking about true punk, this list and most of these comments are way off. |

06.04.10 | nah you're wrong about this Pit
punk isn't a rigid term. At that time Husker Du were more punk than just about anyone |
Buccaneer
06.04.10 | By 'true punk' are you implying Classic Punk, like the Sex Pistols and The Clash? |
Apollo
06.04.10 | NEEDS MOAR BLACKWATER PARK |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | Porch- I disagree, respectfully of course. I just see Zen Arcade being more post-hardcore than anything.
Buc- Ya, as much as I hate to say it because I despise the Sex Pistols and the Clash were above punk really, but if you wanna talk about true punk can go back to RIchard Hell and the Voidoids, Iggy and the Stooges, Patti Smith, the Ramones, Siouxsie And The Banshees, etc etc |
porch
06.04.10 | yeah tbh I hate these kinds of arguments, the genre is just too vague and it all boils down to opinion really
either way, that Refused album is good but very overrated by a lot of people |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | I don't think it's overrated by any means. I just think people use the terms "punk" and "hardcore" way to loosely, that's all. |
TheNewWhack
06.04.10 | Ten Foot Pole - Rev
The best modern punk record... No question. Just listen to it. |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | Nah, either Career Suicide or Ruiner from A Wilhelm Scream are the best of today |
Masochist
06.04.10 | Nice TFP namedrop, Whack. Good band!
Bad Religion, of course, would be my opinion. Not sure which album, but one of them. Or maybe Hot Water Music...perhaps 'Caution'.
Though...according to the general Sputnik consensus, 'The Shape of Punk To Come' really IS the best punk record of all time. Higher rating than 'London Calling' with more votes. |
TheNewWhack
06.04.10 | Hey buttfucker, Ten Foot Pole laid the groundwork for bands like AWS... back in 1994, lol. |

06.04.10 | Fall Out Boy all the way guyz... |

06.04.10 | I prefer MCR. Best punk out there. |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | No, I know who you are talking about. But just because they laid the groundwork doesn't mean that they are any better than AWS. Black Sabbath laid the groundwork for metal, and I think Strapping Young Lad made a better record than any of sabbaths |
TheNewWhack
06.04.10 | Masochist, Hot Water Music is one of the best. No Division might be my favorite. |
Sabottheory
06.04.10 | Big Black - Songs About Fucking |
TheNewWhack
06.04.10 | buttfucker, TFP's earlier work (Rev) is on par with all the new punk you embrace. They just just did it before you were born. |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | Lol, Whack, I'm 27. They didn't do anything before I was born |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | And dude, I know who ten foot pole is man. No need to try and talk down to me bro. I like TFP a lot dude, just I don't think it's as special as what AWS is doing right now. |
TheNewWhack
06.04.10 | Haha! I'm 25. I tend to assume most users are about 14. Sorry bout that. |

06.04.10 | It's all good, dude. I'm one of the older users on this site, bout to be 28 in about 3 weeks. |
SlightlyEpic
06.04.10 | it's irrelevant anyway age has nothing to do with a person's ability to appreciate music |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | Slightly- Agree mostly, however it seems the younger users are more prone to give higher ratings to bad albums without even listening. |
TheNewWhack
06.04.10 | Congrats man! Although, you're about to leave the (chance for the) 27 club. Haha! Don't go killing yourself. |
SlightlyEpic
06.04.10 | well I mean most people are retarded, I can appreciate they probably do get less so with age and experience so now I've discounted my own fucking argument fuck |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | Nah, me and Kurt, Jimmy, and Janis have really nothing in common. I don't need to die at an early age to be considered an icon. I already am.
That's okay slightly.... agreeing with me is the best thing anyone could ever do. |
SlightlyEpic
06.04.10 | but how am I supposed to be objectively right all the time if I'm wrong |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | If you agree with me, you'll never be wrong |

06.04.10 | SlightlyEpic, maturity and taste go hand-in-hand. At some point, everyone loves music for the sake of loving music... Even if they don't bow down and worship Jane Doe. |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | Or, Whack, you could just be me and be born with good taste |
SlightlyEpic
06.04.10 | True I suppose, I guess it's just a matter of at what point in their life a person matures. |
ConsiderPhlebas
06.04.10 | Age has definately affected my appreciation and understanding of music - I'm always learning even now I'm an old bastard |

06.04.10 | The bottom line. I've played music since I was 12. Back then, I played bar chords and enjoyed Green Day tracks... Because they were simple as shit. Now that I'm 25, I enjoy music with complex rhythms, intelligent lyrics and guitar that giver me a stiff dick. |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | No, Johnny, your comments do |

06.04.10 | it's ok johnny i am too and i have the best taste out of anybody i know

ConsiderPhlebas
06.04.10 | I'm not suggesting that older people have better taste - I've just personally got a lot more open minded as time's gone on. Sayin' that though, I didn't have the internet or access to anything remotely underground when I was a teenager. |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | Slightly- This very established user right here(me) begs to differ. |
Masochist
06.04.10 | See, I'm about to turn 23, but I never let go of my past music, I only added onto it. I don't think I could ever let go of Bad Religion, no matter how young and ignorant listening to them makes me seem...:-P |

06.04.10 | Yeah, although i am 17 I do have the best opinions, ever. |

06.04.10 | Buttfucker, Masochist and ConsiderPhlebas... How much did those Epitaph Samplers do for your life? My skater days were defined by all those punk bands |
ConsiderPhlebas
06.04.10 | Bad Religion were too extreme for me when I was a teenager |
buckfutter
06.04.10 | I was never really a skater. I used to be a "hardcore bro" way back in the day, until I realized I needed to grow up. but ya, those old epitaph samplers were amazing. I used to love Epitaph..... |
ConsiderPhlebas
06.04.10 | @Whack - yeah man, loved 'em when I finally grew a pair. The Punk-O-Rama series opened things up for me too. |
Prolapse
06.04.10 | Where i live there's no music scene, just a bunch of douche bags having sex in the back of their €300 honda civic listening to rave music |

06.04.10 | ConsiderPhlebas, If you weren't into punk back then, you must (now) be into kicking the shit out of people... and politics.

Masochist
06.04.10 | I started listening to BR back when I was a freshman or sophomore in high school (back when Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 was all the rage). That era of extreme sports video games (Dave Mirra, Matt Hoffman, Crazy Taxi, etc.) pretty much paved the way for about 50% or so of my music tastes today. I even made a list about it a couple years ago:
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=248968&listid=9058
As for the Epitaph samplers...well, they didn't do as much for me as the Warped Tour ones did, but bands like From First to Last helped me get used to screaming in songs, and bands like Tiger Army and Scatter The Ashes gave me alternatives to straight punk, which was nice back then. |
