| Groovin' The Moo
It was pretty good. For $100 I got to see a bunch of bands that I've been onto for a while, and I also discovered some that I wasn't expecting.
List is the lineup that I saw, in no particular order except for the first and last bands. | 1 | Silverchair
Fucking awesome, despite Daniel Johns' guitar solos consisting of pretty much just screeching (that might be because of his arthritis though, I'm not sure). They earn "best moment of the day" for when Daniel Johns screamed towards the end of "Freak". It was a beautiful thing and exactly what I wanted from him to prove he's still got it. Just a shame they didn't play "Anthem For The Year 2000", they did some new songs instead. | 2 | Grinspoon
Rocked out pretty well. Unfortunately I spent most of their performance next to a ridiculously overpowered bass amp which kinda ruined it for me. No matter, it wasn't their fault after all. | 3 | Tegan & Sara | 4 | Empire Of The Sun
I'm a little curious as to what separated him (the other guy left the band a while ago) from the bands playing 500 metres away in the small rave that was the Moolin Rouge tent. Yes they're more popular, but from what I could hear the music stood out like a sore thumb against most of the other bands at the festival. | 5 | Spoon
Maybe its because I went into their set expecting a lot (a guy I was talking to said that within 10 minutes I would be a fan) but I found their performance pretty meh. They weren't bad, just nothing i could really sink my teeth into. As soon as I can I'm going to get one of their albums because surely their must be something more to them then what I saw. | 6 | Vampire Weekend
Considering the first time I heard these guys my first thought was "These guys would be awesome live", I was kinda dissapointed. Still enjoyable though, no doubt about that. | 7 | British India
Best band of the day, partly because they produced the closest thing to a mosh pit I'll ever be in (I way just over 50 kilos so I'd be annihilated in a proper one), but also because they simply rocked the fuck out with a heap of energy. | 8 | Lisa Mitchell
This is where that ridiculously over powered bass amp started to bug me. i was over 50 metres awa from the stage and I every thump felt like a shove in the chest. For a band like Empire Of The Sun that might be warranted, but for Mitchell it was irritating and detracted from her performance. Speaking of which, she had this weird side-to-side head bop thing that she kept doing randomly. One last thing.
She.
Didn't.
Play.
Coin.
Laundry.
All because whenever she does people throw coins on stage, even when she asks them to stop. | 9 | Miami Horror | 10 | Kisschasy
Not too bad, could have done with a bit more energy but overall they were a good way to start the day. | |
Eclectic
05.10.10 | Obviously 10 was the first band I saw, I just forgot to tick reverse ordering. | Douglas
05.10.10 | So shitly organised in bendigo, it was horrible. | Dryden
05.10.10 | we can tell when yr lying | DaveyBoy
05.10.10 | As per what Dougie saud, I have heard some terrible reviews of this festival, predominantly with the way it was organised, but also with some of the performances.
Sounds like you had a great experience though and if you go to a better festival, you're going to get blown away with the value. | Eclectic
05.10.10 | What was badly organised about it?
Yeah Davey, I can't wait for Big Day Out next year. | DaveyBoy
05.10.10 | I won't speak for Dougie (who I presume was there), but apparently there were long (up to 3 hour) queues at one stage. The organisers have already apologised for it.
Also, poor sound comes into the organisation to some extent. | Douglas
05.10.10 | number 1, i waited to get in for 2-3 hours at least, mainly because there was one entrance for the whole festival, number 2, there was a lack of food stalls, number 3 no toilets in the drinking area, meaning you had to line up to get in each time you went to take a piss! | Edwin
05.10.10 | Which one did you go to man? I've gone to the Maitland one for a few years now, but decided against it this year. | DaveyBoy
05.10.10 | Oh yeah, that toilet thing was a main complaint.
I also heard that EoTSun were beyond bad, while Silverchair's new songs got a very mixed resonse. | Eclectic
05.10.10 | Wow, sounds like it wasn't a good venue. Yeah, the sound quality was kinda dodgy, particularly with artists like Lisa Mitchell who half mumbles her words anyway. | Eclectic
05.10.10 | EotS had the most elaborate performance of the bunch, but that didn't really help him much.
I didn't mind Silverchair's new stuff, it definitely wasn't godawful. | ThePalaceOfWisdom
05.10.10 | so basically groovin' the moo is bad. I wonder if I should tell my friend to sell her tickets and come to DEP or let her find this out for herself. hmmmm | tombits
05.10.10 | The lineup looed lpl bad, but sounds like you had some fun. Music festivals are fun regardless of who's playing. | Eclectic
05.10.10 | I can imagine GtM isn't exactly your thing Red, there were moments where I could imagine you bagging out band's like British India, laughing and walking off. | Dryden
05.10.10 | why | Douglas
05.10.10 | mate if i made a hurricane for new years at pyramid fun, groovin the moo unorganisation is nothing! | ThePalaceOfWisdom
05.10.10 | Isn't british india like an australian version of bloc party? | Eclectic
05.10.10 | Haha, nice Dougie.
I'm not familiar with British India's work on their albums, but live I would classify them as something akin to Post-Hardcore, or just general rock. | klap
05.10.10 | spoon killed it at coachella. get ga ga ga ga ga | Eclectic
05.10.10 | I was waiting for you to comment Rudy. Ok, I'll get it when I can. | Vooligan
05.10.10 | Last year at Bendigo was great. Everything ran really smoothly. No lines at all to get in, just went straight through.
Glad i chose not to go this year though, by the sounds of it. | Jim
05.10.10 | hang on did silverchair play new stuff as in brand new stuff, or just young modern stuff??
i like how they spaz the fuck out of freak when they play it live. | dylantheairplane
05.10.10 | Tegan and Sara are so killer live. | CrackTheSkye
05.10.10 | Mosh pits aren't as bad as you think. I don’t weigh much either and have managed to hold my own in them. Plus they’re heaps fun. | Eclectic
05.10.10 | Silverchair played brand new stuff man. They had one song, "16", that was pretty sexy.
"Freak" was fucking awesome, everybody in the crowd screaming at the top of their lungs "I'M A FREAK!" was just an insane experience.
Fair 'nough then Crack. One day I'll try one, one day. | Eclectic
05.10.10 | I almost forgot, the Miami Horror guy went insane and climbed up on the scaffolding. He just climbed up randomly, sang for a bit (while leaning out over the crowd), obliterated his microphone by dropping it straight down to the stage, and then climbed back down.
Twas pretty fucking awesome. | tombits
05.11.10 | Bah, Tera Melos were doing that long before Miami Horror!
