The Neptune's Greatest Hits

Now this was daunting, Neptunes have done so much great shit I almost made this an album list, but I think I narrowed it down pretty well.
5Birdman ft. Clipse
What Happened to that Boy?

Put this tune on and crank up a good subwoofer. Now listen. WHOOM! Every other bass hit on this song slams like nothing else.
4Ludacris
Southern Hospitality

I gotta say, this was the first really great Neptunes production. Its spartan percussion, flutes, and buzzes and bloops set the template for the rest of the decade for Chad Hugo and Pharrell, and perfectly paved the way into the similarly hilarious Shake Ya Ass.
3Kelis
Milkshake

The buzzes are what make it for me. Those huge enormous background buzzes completely upstage Kelis on her own song. Runner up, the "Ding!" played just to accent the right words. Does anyone know what that insturment is called?
2Snoop Dogg
Drop It Like Its Hot

As far as Neptunes beats go, this one sounds weird even for them. Those tongue clicks in the back ground are irresistibly mimic ready, everyones clicked along to this beat at some point, and its always interesting to argue which hooks the best hook, Snoop's "Drop it like its hawwwwt" or Pharrell's "Snooooooooooooooooooooooooo-whoop!".
1Clipse
Grindin'

If you've read any of my other lists, you already know my affinity for this song. But with so many more complex beats under their belt why would I pick one that sounds so simple? Because its not. Gridin's beat is fucking alive, after 40+ listens I still can't bang out the beat because it keeps changing, the industrial quality of the bleeps in the chorus offset the "tap-ti-ti-tap" hi-hat noise expertly, its a work of art, a nasty, dirty, work of art. And Pharrell's "Grindin!" is the single best vocal contribution he's ever made.
