Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 12 Favs |
12 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Show Your Bones
"Honeybear" - Great party tune. Rocks heavy, high energy, good catchy verses and a chorus that makes it tough not to thrash about in rhythm. And I love they lyric about the call from the bear gonna take all his honey honey |
11 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Show Your Bones
"Gold Lion" - After their vintage style punk rock debut, Fever To Tell, YYYs came back sounding like a mainstream indie band. This track has a large sound and some pretty strong hooks. |
10 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs It's Blitz!
"Runaway" - Based around a simple, sad piano melody that fits well with the lyrics. Something touching and powerful about this song, hard to put your finger on what's so special about it. |
9 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Is Is
"Rockers To Swallow" - The Is Is EP was a small slice of the roughest, darkest Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They kicked some ass on their debut, but they never indulged into distorted thrashing as heavily as they did on this album. This track is a nice intro to the harsh noise and grimy guitars in store. I wish they'd gone full length with this sound. |
8 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Is Is
"Down Boy" - This song sounds exactly like what I want YYYs to sound like. Zinner's guitar work sounds crisper, sharper and more jagged than anyone. Karen knows how and when to apply shouts and growls. This song nails it. |
7 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Fever To Tell
"Rich" - Ridiculously awesome use of harmonics making up the song's central guitar part. Some primal vocals from Karen O make the song pretty rough, which generally makes for the best YYY songs. |
6 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs It's Blitz!
"Zero" - The 1986 sound on this song came out of nowhere, showing the band stepping into different sounds and still sounding good. Never heard anybody say it, but the main synth in this has a similar feel to the '80s Band Aid charity hit, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" Zero is secretly powered by Christmas spirit. |
5 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Is Is
"Isis" - Best guitar, best vocal melodies, best rocking out. This sounds cooler than anything. This sound is the most awesome side of YYYs. |
4 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Fever To Tell
"Maps" - Will be hard for them to trump this song. It's carried by real emotion. This is how bad asses do a sensitive song. Wait. They don't love you like I love you. |
3 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Fever To Tell
"Y Control" - This song sounds like an off the wall rocking good time, which it is. It's like a party in a song. Song gets bonus points for children playing with a dead dog in the music video. |
2 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Show Your Bones
"Way Out" - There's something about this song that just sounds like it has a chip on its shoulder and Karen O's snide vocal sounds like a newer, nastier Chrissy Hynde. |
1 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Fever To Tell
"Date With The Night" - Completely raw, sounds like what an early New York punk influenced band could sound like at best. By far the most exciting YYY song in a live venue. |
