| The Forgotten Ones
Do any of you remember the times when you first started on your musical journey, blissfully unaware of all that music had to offer, and listening to music without ANY outside influence and NO ONE to tell you whether your tastes were good or bad? I do...and some years later, I tend to forget just how much I LOVED the songs I discovered back then. Songs like the ones on this list, which are songs that I repeatedly go back to after "rediscovering" just how good they are (IMO). Ahhh...good times :-). | 1 | Bad Religion Tiny Voices
From the first album I ever got by my favorite band. Was the name of one of my blogs for a long time. | 2 | Between Home and Serenity Tranquility
Excellent but not-so-well known Post Hardcore band. | 3 | Bouncing Souls Manthem | 4 | Cold Remedy
Still one of my favorite songs called "Remedy." | 5 | Coldplay Don't Panic | 6 | Cracker Low | 7 | Demon Hunter My Heartstrings Come Undone | 8 | Goldfinger Spokesman | 9 | Good Charlotte In This World (Murder)
From "The Chronicles of Life and Death," and probably the best song they've ever produced. | 10 | Hoobastank Out of Control | 11 | Kutless Your Touch
Hahaha...I can't tell you the nostalgia I get listening to this song. | 12 | Less Than Jake All My Friends Are Metalheadz
"...And this is a fair request that I will not judge any person ONLY as a 'teenager', if you will constantly remind yourself that some of MY generation judges people by their race, their belief or the color of their skin, and that this is no more right than saying 'All teenagers are drunken dope addicts or glue-sniffers'." | 13 | Linkin Park Don't Stay
With that glass-breaking intro. The third album I ever bought with my own money. | 14 | Matchbook Romance Say It Like You Mean It | 15 | Millencolin No Cigar
There are always those bands that I forget about when rec'ing punk rock. Millencolin is one of them, as are Bouncing Souls, Ten Foot Pole and Hot Water Music. (By the way, you ought to check all of them out if you've never done so). | 16 | Motion City Soundtrack Capital H
"Singin' songs on the balcony as the city crumbles under thepowersofanevildoctorrocketsciencemonster with the abilities to destroy the entire universe." | 17 | Muse City of Delusion
I always forget about half the songs on "Black Holes and Revelations" | 18 | Nas If I Ruled The World | 19 | Plain White T's Breakdown | 20 | P.O.D. Satellite | 21 | Slipknot Vermillion | 22 | Spoken September | 23 | Stretch Arm Strong The Sound of Names Dropping | 24 | Stutterfly Dead Eyes | 25 | Weird Al Yankovic Yoda
Yoda! Yo-Yo-Yo-Yo-Yoda! Yo-Yo-Yo-Yo-Yodaaaa! (My favorite of his Star Wars-themed songs) | |

03.24.10 | 1, 3 and 18 for the win! | Masochist
03.24.10 | Songs which also should be on this list:
Eminem - "Still Don't Give a Fuck"
The Feeling - "Sewn"
The Matches - "Little Maggots"
Placebo - "The Bitter End"
Soil - "Pride"
Spineshank - "Smothered"
Unwritten Law - (pretty much every song from 'Here's To the Mourning')
Watashi Wa - "All That I Can't Keep"
We Are Scientists - "Nobody Move, Nobody Gets Hurt"
The Working Title - "The Mary Getaway (I Lost Everything)"
I would've put them on, but I didn't want to make the list too long. But man, I miss the days when I was discovering all this stuff. | Masochist
03.24.10 | Inveigh - I always forget how fun it is to listen to the Bouncing Souls
motocross - Hahaha, I went to buy that song from Amazon and discovered the entire album ('Kerosene Hat') was only $5.00, so I got the whole thing :-). | Satellite
03.24.10 | Some of these are lol bad, but I grew up on 1, 3, 8, 12 and 15 and now I'm srsly punk as fuck. | Masochist
03.24.10 | Satellite - That's the point, though, right? Back then, there was no such thing as "guilty pleasure;" I didn't care that someone (everyone) else thought some of these songs were terrible, or they had no musical merit whatsoever, I just listened to it because I liked it. If I'm honest with myself, I've somewhat lost that ability.
And you notice what all those songs (except #1) have in common? They were all on a Tony Hawk game ;-) (and even #1 is by a band who's been on more TH games than any other artist, if I'm not mistaken). | AnotherBrick1
03.24.10 | It feels like i've been alone too long, with no girls around, my mind was wandering. thinking of some way.....to release it! looked in the kitchen saw some crisco oil, and thats when my blood, started to boil. | Masochist
03.24.10 | I'm pretty sure that's Weird Al's version of "Longview" disguised as a Britney cover ;-) | AnotherBrick1
03.24.10 | haha fucking love that song | Satellite
03.24.10 | Well I agree, Masochist. MY point was that we're all condescending pricks now.
I was A LOT happier when I thought it was impossible for anything to sound better than NOFX and Less Than Jake. | bungy
03.24.10 | Nice! Same here with 3,8,9,13,15,25....lol I love 25 | Satellite
03.24.10 | Speaking of which, the other day I found a burned CD simply titled "12/4/04." I got 30 seconds into the first song, which sounded vaguely familiar and thought, "hey, this sort of rules!" And when I finally realized that it was that one Velvet Revolver song, I'll admit I was slightly repulsed. 6 years ago I wouldn't have been that vain. | AnotherBrick1
03.24.10 | dude velvet revolver own | Masochist
03.25.10 | "I was A LOT happier when I thought it was impossible for anything to sound better than NOFX and Less Than Jake."
^^^ That. I also missed a lot of other pop-punk, like Autopilot Off, Mest and Green Day. I miss not caring about what other people thought....
Well, no, let me rephrase that. I miss not being influenced by other people. Those were my PureVolume days, when I would download samplers and see what I liked. The glory days, for sure. |
