A name change for this list was in order. (It wasn't so funny sober)
9Metallica
Load

Ok, I have A feeling I'm going to get some heckle for this...yes, I prefer St. Anger to Load. I think load is bland, quiet for the most part and just in general contained a good deal of music I didn't enjoy. Best way to put it because it wasn't necessarily bad, just not really for my liking.
Best 3 songs: 2 x 4, King Nothing, Hero Of The Day.
8Metallica
St. Anger

Some might think I'm crazy but I didn't HATE this album. It was pretty dark as the band had been through problems and heavy, which Load didn't really accomplish. Overall however? Not great at all.
Best 3 songs: Some Kind Of Monster, The Unnamed Feeling, St. Anger.
7Metallica
Reload

A step up from Load (or is it?). Better musicianship for me at least. Had more enjoyable songs IMO. I think this is reflected in their setlist which consistently contains more songs from this album than the previous, Load (slightly).
Best 3 songs: Fuel, The Memory Remains, The Unforgiven II.
6Metallica
Kill Em All

Excellent debut with a great thrash sound. Don't need to say much IMO, great debut which established them firmly on the metal scene.
Best 3 songs: The Four Horsemen, Hit The Lights, Jump In The Fire
5Metallica
Death Magnetic

WOO! Metallica are back to what is, IMO their true sound. They sound more like thier old selves on their latest album which is a good move for me, as you'll see, their earlier work is more for my liking. Solid album with good song writing.
Best 3 songs: Broken, Beaten & Scarred, All Nightmare Long, Cyanide

Metallica

The infamous Black Album. Heralded as Metallica's best for the most part, although it did seem to split a lot of fans. I do prefer their earlier 3 albums and the musical style displayed on them, however, Metallica contained some of IMO Metallica's best tracks and displayed awesome musicianship. Excellent, and definitely not off putting for me as a fan with the change in style.
Best 3 songs: Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven, Wherever I may Roam
3Metallica
...And Justice For All

Ok, here come the big 3 which caused me a lot of problems in trying to choose an order. Justice was a stunning album from a band who's founding bassist was recently deceased, Jason Newsted had big shoes to fill. Once again, the top notch musicianship and craft of the band are deisplayed at times with pummeling force and others majestic guitar work (One). Brilliant.
Best 3 songs: One, Blackened, Eye Of The Beholder. (They were all fantastic these are just 3 I'm enjoying at the minute.)
2Metallica
Master Of Puppets

Anyone's number 1? It's probably a tie for me. Also, this IMO is the most influential albums,as far as metal is concerned, most certainly for the 80s and possibly of all time. The band stepped up and broadened their horizons, occasionally experimenting with the introduction of some prog touches (Damage inc.). Simply awesome with very very few flaws.
Best 3 songs: Master Of Puppets, Disposable Heroes, Welcome Home (Sanitarium).
1Metallica
Ride The Lightning

Well here we are. My #1. I'm not sure why this is set apart from the rest but I just love everything about this album. The song structure, the riffs, the drums and the general feel to the album. Thrash at it's finest in one song, slower and calculated the next (sometimes both), this album really has everything for fans of thrash and all fans of metal in general. James Hetfield comes into his own with his vocal performance and we hear other sides to it than on Kill 'Em All. A metal classic and by all means an essential!
Best 3 songs: All of them. Currently loving: Fade To Black, Creeping Death, For Whom The Bell Tolls.
