Payroll In The Hay

As of today, I am officially on the payroll at my school. On the negative side, my first paycheck doesn't come in until after spring break. On the plus side, there should be a lot of backpay on it. Here's what I'm listening to while I bide my time.
1Dustin Kensrue
Please Come Home

This album has grown on me big time. Like a benign tumor. Or a benevolent tumor. Filled with strong folk songs.
2 Dead Man's Bones
Dead Man's Bones

As if Stay and Half Nelson weren't enough, Ryan Gosling proves there's far more to him than The Notebook with his spacey, spooky pseudo-musical collaboration with Zach Shields and a completely bizarre and completely fitting children's choir.
3Wilco
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

Never got into this album when it first came out, but the years and their wisdom have guided me back to it, and it's really one of the best indie(ish) rock releases of the past decade.
4Sun Kil Moon
Tiny Cities

A full album of acoustic Modest Mouse covers could have been written off as a gimmick, if Kozelek and kompany didn't do such an amazing job. Just picked up his solo album of AC/DC covers, because if it's anything like this, I'll end up not only loving it, but also appreciating the originals even more.
5Dark Tranquillity
Exposures: In Retrospect and Denial

Although I hear We Are the Void is pretty bland (which is disappointing), I can always take refuge here. I find it pretty amazing that this is a collection of b-sides.
6The Receiving End of Sirens
The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi

This album is pretty divisive, but I personally can't get enough of it. I've been playing it in steady rotation for the past few years, and continue to find more and more layers, both musically and lyrically, to sink my ears into. I have yet to get tired of this.
7Opeth
Ghost Reveries

First Opeth album I bought. Revisiting it lately. Not their best, but still extremely...well...extreme. And Hours of Wealth is gorgeous.
