Battle Of The Bands [part 15]

Round 15 of 18. Well, that last battle was a little more one-sided than I predicted, but it was still a success. Pink Floyd won, with King Crimson getting second, and Rush third. This next round will be a good one too. Here are the rules again: - Each round there will be three bands - The band who receives the most votes (via comments) moves on to the next round. - Each round lasts 24 hours. - Only one vote each round per member. - These are the preliminary rounds, then there are also quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals - In the event of a tie, a faceoff will occur between the disputed albums. - The final two will be an EPIC SHOWDOWN! So, let's get started: NOTE: The 'average sputnik rating' I get by adding all of the bands album ratings together and averaging them out.
1Between The Buried And Me

Latest album: The Great Misdirect / Average Sputnik rating: 3.9 / Between The Buried and Me gained respect in both Hardcore/Metalcore crowds and in the Metal scene with their self titled debut LP. The group are from North Carolina and signed to Victory Records, home to many popular hardcore acts. Between The Buried and Me have an extremely unique sound with the melding of styles that they use. But not only do they meld these styles well, they have mastered every single style that they incorporate into their sound. This is a rare feat for a band at their age. Between The Buried and Me show a diversity in their music, similar to bands like Opeth and The Dillinger Escape Plan, although their overall sound isn't completely similar to either band. At the same time, it has a very interesting synth style possibly like that of Dream Theater and Kamelot. All in all, they are for sure to be somewhere out of most newer bands' league.
2The Dillinger Escape Plan

Latest album: Ire Works / Average Sputnik rating: 3.61 / The Dillinger Escape Plan is a experimental mathcore band that integrates metal, hardcore, free jazz, varying time signatures, and electronic samples. They are known for the intensity and too close for comfort violence of their live shows, which have been known to feature stage-diving and fire-breathing. The band is rumored to choose their music's time signatures with the aid of dice, or with the use of some kind of code, but this is purely speculation. What isn't speculation is their technical prowess.
3Dream Theater

Latest album: Wither EP / Average Sputnik rating: 3.54 /
Dream Theater is a progressive metal band formed by three students at the Berklee College of Music in the mid-1980s. In the twenty years since they established, they have become one of the most commercially successful progressive bands since the height of progressive rock in the mid-1970s. The band is comprised of five members: John Petrucci (guitar), James LaBrie (vocals), Mike Portnoy (drums), John Myung (bass), and Jordan Rudess (keyboards). Dream Theater has a great sense of melodies, polyrhythmic ideas, and overall musicality in all styles of music, and is noted for its member's technical proficiency. Dream Theater's contributions to the progressive rock and metal world have been very influential to other groups and essential to the growth of progressive metal music.
