It's a metalcore list that includes bands who helped bring the genre into existence, bands/albums that epitomized the genre and (to be fair this wasn't in the description) a few bands from substyles of the genre (HORSE, DEP, Animosity) that I feel represent their substyle well. Trying to pin point the exact first band to include enough melody in their sound to classify as melodic metalcore would be borderline impossible.
