Pantera - Reinventing the Steel
The Showdown - Temptation Come My Way
Disciple - Southern Hospitality
All those came to mind, not quite the same genre as you have there, but all pretty damn good. |

12.30.09 | Well, if you want good southern metal I will give you some bands:
Rwake - Voices of Omens
Alabama Thunderpussy - River City Revival

Inveigh
12.30.09 | glad you liked NOLA Emim -- it's one of my all-time favorites.
And yes, Mr. Gawd should check out that Pantera disc, along with Eyehategod, Crowbar, Kylesa and Baroness from SteelErected's recs (sorry guys, I haven't heard the rest of those, but I'm sure they're top-notch knowing your tastes). |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.30.09 | Inveigh, you must get the Rwake album. To me, it is one of my favorite albums of all time. |
Bleekill
12.30.09 | Weedeater - God Luck and Goodspeed
Also everything Eyehategod does is amazing, if you listen to one band recommended listen to them. Don't expect to love them right away though. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.30.09 | Fuck, how could I forget Weedeater. Love those guys, great live. |
Inveigh
12.30.09 | Rwake, huh? I'll get on that, I need some new southern/stoner metal. easy to find you think Steel? |
Phantom
12.30.09 | FUCKING CLUTCH
rape all of these bands |
Phantom
12.30.09 | in reference to the bands on the list, most of the suggested bands rule |
Inveigh
12.30.09 | huh, I forgot about Clutch. Don't know if I'd consider them SOUTHERN per se (aren't they from like Vermont or some shit?) but they definitely rock the groovey riffs of a southern metal band. |
Phantom
12.30.09 | virginia |
Phantom
12.30.09 | i think, but i suggested them because or their sound not because of where they're from. |
TheSpirit
12.30.09 | Brand New Sin |
Inveigh
12.30.09 | virginia sounds more right, and it's definitely more southern. I think their sound (from their newest album at least, haven't heard much before that) is more funk/groove oriented, but those are two staples of southern metal, so yeah, forget what I said, it was a good rec :-) |
Phantom
12.30.09 | i know it was, ;]
and i just checked; it's maryland which is pretty much virginia so i was right. Pretty good at fudging my knowledge of american states
|
Inveigh
12.30.09 | huh, Maryland might as well be Virginia, you're right. Interesting. I also realized I rec'd Doomriders, and most of them are from Massachusetts, so...idk. I wanna get on some older Clutch... |
shinfojoe
12.30.09 | fight paris
a girl a gun a ghost
the greenery |
Phantom
12.30.09 | get Blast Tyrant |
SteelErectedb4you8er
12.30.09 | Blast Tyrant, Jam Room, and Elephant Riders are my favorite Clutch records, but yeah, Blast Tyrant is some kickass rock! |
Inveigh
12.30.09 | Blast Tyrant is going for like $30 used on amazon... looks like it'll be download time for me... |
Bleekill
12.30.09 | Clutch is probably my favorite band, if I had to choose one. Get their self titled and "slow hole to china" for their more metal-ish days, their newer bluesier style is awesome too. I just saw them with doomriders on Sunday, best show ever. They played all self titled and like 6 from strange cousins and a mix of other shit. They were recording it so it was great. |
Mordecai.
12.30.09 | A Static Lullaby - Rattlessnake |
