Best Of 2009

I missed a few albums this year that I really need (agoraphobic nosebleed, cobalt, grizzly bear, etc, etc). OH WELL, they'll come up on someone else's list. I really liked these:
1Poison the Well
The Tropic Rot

YCBY + (Versions - the super dense shit) = The Tropic Rot. Every track is excellent, I'm still not sick of this.
2Converge
Axe to Fall

Converge discography + album guests = Axe to Fall. Almost better than Jane Doe. That says a lot.
3Baroness
Blue Record

(Red Album - epic heavy parts) + an old school classic rock feel = Blue Record. Simply addicting.
4Animal Collective
Merriweather Post Pavilion

(AC discography - craziness) + catchy awesomeness = MPP. If you can't get into this, you're favorite band
is probably Psyopus.
5Giant Squid
The Ichthyologist

One of the most epic metal albums ever. Great vocal performances, sludge working in tandem with horn
sections; what more could you want?
6Mastodon
Crack the Skye

2009's best album featuring a bear in the artwork.
7Goes Cube
Another Day Has Passed

2009's best album combining punk, rock, and sludge.
8Kylesa
Static Tensions

2009's best album featuring two drummers.
9Isis
Wavering Radiant

2009's best album featuring a guest appearance by Adam Jones.
10 Death
...For the Whole World to See

2009's best album that was recorded in '74.
11Animals as Leaders
Animals as Leaders

Scale the wha?
12Silversun Pickups
Swoon

Aren't we in the '00s?
13Sonic Youth
The Eternal

Again, aren't we in the '00s?
14Iron Age
The Sleeping Eye

Who knew thrash and doom would blend so good together?
15 Ha Ha Tonka
Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South

Walking on the Devil's Backbone.
16Disappearer
The Clearing

Obsidian.
17The Red Chord
Fed Through the Teeth Machine

Mouthful of Precious Stones
18Every Time I Die
New Junk Aesthetic

Organ Grinder.
19Doomriders
Darkness Come Alive

Heavy Lies the Crown.
20Megadeth
Endgame

Bite the Hand.
21Between the Buried and Me
The Great Misdirect

My expectations were way to high for this album. Unfortunately, it's no Colors.
22The Number Twelve Looks Like You
Worse than Alone

Just recently got into this band. Not as good as Nuclear. Sad. Nuclear., but still impressive.
23Lazarus A.D.
The Onslaught

Finally, a new thrash band who doesn't sound like they're stuck in the 80s.
24Pearl Jam
Backspacer

Initially this was a disappointing listen. The first 4 are instantly likable, but the last half takes some time to
grow.
25Gallows
Grey Britain

They're still pissed, and there's some good hardcore tunes on here. Some of the experimentation on here is
iffy (The Vulture), but still a good album nonetheless.
