| Meatplows Top Of The 00's
so theres a little thread happening over in the R&M forum at the moment as 2009 comes to a close, this is my list of top 10 albums of the decade, 1 album per artist.
://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=579257 | 1 | | Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds No More Shall We Part
Simply one of the most beautiful, poetic recordings i've ever come across. One of my favourite bands from both the 80's and 90's continues on as strong as ever, with a hiccup or two (Nocturama) but still cementing themselves firmly as one of those essential artists I don't know how I ever did without. | 2 | | Jurassic 5 Power In Numbers
Do you want upbeat? Do you want soulful? Do you want funky? This is my go-to album for a collection of some of the most uplifting, spirited hip-hop i've ever heard in my life. Absolutely sensational effort that never fails to make me feel proud to be a human being, with unlimited freedom and potential. | 3 | | The Avalanches Since I Left You
If there is one album that could almost top the sheer amount of fun of Power In Numbers, this effort from Australian electronic act The Avalanches is prime candidate #1. As of current their only release, Since I Left You is one of the first albums comprised entirely of hundreds of samples (similar to DJ Shadow, Girl Talk) that took ages to legally clear but was worth it in the end. From start to finish it is an unrelentlessly charming assault on the senses, veering from rave ready dance to sheer melancholic beauty at the drop of a hat. | 4 | | Boards of Canada Geogaddi
To me there is something completely magical in the warm, nostalgic sound of Scottish ambient electronic music duo Boards of Canada, an almost profound, eerie sense of cryptic games being played with the listener. Indeed, fans of the group have spent hours trying to interpret some of the more unusual relations between song titles, album art and musical concepts that the pair have put forth, Geogaddi a perfect example of this. This album is dark, strangling the listen with an almost claustrophobic sense of atmosphere in comparison to earlier release Music Has The Right to Children and for this is one hell of a listen that took a long while to grow on me. | 5 | | Brethren Savage Inequalities
Nothing will prepare you for what power electronics artist Brethren has put to tape with Savage Inequalities. I cannot express the sheer misanthropic hatred tearing through the speakers here, if there is one album I could say with confidence as being the absolute embodiment of the sheer depths of venomous hatred man is capable of, Savage Inequalities feeds any metal band in the world to the dogs. This album is poison to the mind, beware. | 6 | | Michio Kurihara Sunset Notes
One of the best modern psychedelic rock albums i've ever come across, Michio Kurihara's guitar playing is completely infectious and brings to life something completely grand out of so little. So much fun. | 7 | | The Flashbulb Kirlian Selections
Benn Jordan's work as The Flashbulb covers a lot of ground musically, mostly centered around glitchy drill 'n' bass type stuff which has built him quite a popular following. If there is one reason i'm putting this album on my list, it is because one of the greatest experiences I ever had in my life was walking around at night high as a kite around the end of last year watching all the Christmas lights in town listening to this on my mp3 player. The music is nothing short of incredible, but that moment seemed to capture the spirit of it for me like no other. | 8 | | Kadenzza The Second Renaissance
A one man symphonic black metal project from Japan, The Second Renaissance is an absolute monster of an album. Helping usher me into the joys of the genre, the technical precision and songwriting prowess of You Oshima cannot be ignored here and this is one twisting journey of a release that is amongst some of my favourite metal recordings. | 9 | | Isis Panopticon
Ah, a sputnik band. No wonder I ignored them for so long. My first listens of Isis were met with some confusion, what is this? It's slow, boring. The guy screams, its long and drawn out and goes nowhere, meh. I left it for months, then I returned. And was blown away. Gradually, that is. If there is one thing I learnt with Panopticon, it's that some of the dearest music to me takes a lot of patience and plenty of time to work it's magic. The sheer density of production here and the overall atmosphere of the music is astounding. A slow burner of an album if i've ever heard one. | 10 | | Lady GaGa The Fame
Lady GaGa? If there was one significant change in me over the last year or two, it's that I managed to successfully pull my head of my ass and look firmly at the world of pop music without making vague connections to some "corporate machine" running everything and it being a soulless, money grubbing exercise full of people with no talent. We were all 12 once, right? Who gives a fuck about selling out anymore. bitches shake their ass to this shit, it's well produced and just so much damn fun to listen to. This is probably my most listened to album over the past year, and so deserves a place here for me. | 11 | | And.... The Best of The Rest
Close, but no cigar. You know how it is. Thanks for reading if you got this far, see the little comments submission thing down the bottom? Give me some feedback, thanks. | 12 | | Om Pilgrimage | 13 | | Hellveto Zmierzch | 14 | | Autechre Confield | 15 | | Current 93 Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain | 16 | | Millencolin Pennybridge Pioneers | 17 | | Strapping Young Lad Alien | 18 | | Machine Gun Fellatio Paging Mr Strike | 19 | | Parlamentarisk Sodomi Har Du Sagt A Far Du Si Nal | 20 | | Mrs Jynx The Standoffish Cat | 21 | | Erykah Badu New Amerykah Pt. 1 (4th World War) | 22 | | Squarepusher Ultravisitor | 23 | | WHOURKR Naat | 24 | | Justice Cross | 25 | | Foetus Flow | 26 | | Informatik Arena | 27 | | Decapitated Winds of Creation | 28 | | Prurient Black Vase | 29 | | Black Milk Tronic | 30 | | Wisp NRTHNDR | 31 | | Gunther Pleasureman | 32 | | Halo Manash SYoMA | |

11.04.09 | isn't prurient a noise artist? I might be mistaken but I think I saw a really noisy live video of him making noises into a mic and stomping on distortion pedals. By the way, I think you'd like busdriver. Get Jhelli Beam, or Roadcoatoverkill if you want something poppier. | jrowa001
