08.03.09 My Favourite Album By My Favourite Arti

My Favourite Album By My Favourite Artists

No reason. Just posting a list so that 5 years later I can laugh at what were my favourite artists and what I saw as their best albums.
1Devin Townsend
Ocean Machine

With Devin it's hard, cause he's made a bunch of super quality records. But even though Terria (and a couple of others) give a good fight, I have to go with Ocean Machine for the sake of how unbelievable it is from start to finish for his debut solo album. It's just... Perfect really.
2Porcupine Tree
Stupid Dream

Porcupine Tree suddenly made an album that had almost pop quality, I'm sure some fans of the older material were disappointed, but look at this album; it's beautiful, it's catchy, it's atmospheric, there's even a couple of good lyrics! (Not Wilsons strong point in my opinion) and it rocks. That's all!
3Camel
Mirage

To be honest, it's almost impossible for me to decide between Mirage, Moonmadness and The Snow Goose, but I'm going to go with Mirage, cause I THINK I've played it the most. Well, other reasons? It contains Lady Fantasy. 'Nuff said.
4Opeth
Still Life

Really, I would like to say I'm not the average Opeth fan and say that My Arms Your Hearse or some other Opeth album is the best (except for Blackwater Park, which is almost as popular), but unfortunately I have to admit. I like this one the best. Even with all it's little flaws (on the production side). MAYH comes close though.
5Mostly Autumn
The Spirit of Autumn Past

I for one think that every Mostly Autumn is pretty good at the very least. BUT I have to admit that the older folkier stuff did have something that most of the recent albums are missing. Most seem to prefer Last Bright Light to this, but I think that 'The Gap is Too Wide' is an even better epic than Mother Nature. And then there is Evergreen, Spirit of Autumn Past and the amazing instrumental tracks.
6Wintersun
Wintersun

This album means a lot to me. I think of it as the best Finnish metal album done so far. Especially the second half of the album is just pure magic. Beautiful Death... A metal song at its finest right there.
7Tori Amos
Boys for Pele

All in all, it's the best album she's done. Even with all the weird moments and a couple of tracks that I don't really feel like listening to the end a lot of time, there's something special here. This is the last album I'd put playing on a party, but I don't really have parties so it doesn't matter!
8Symphony X
The Divine Wings of Tragedy

Symphony X is an important band to me in a lot of ways. It was the gateway to the progressive metal and from there to the progressive rock world. I like (almost) all their albums a great deal, but I have to choose Divine Wings, because it was my first Symphony X album and because the first listen through this album was the most amazing first listen through an album I've experienced. I'm dead serious. Ok... In retrospect, I hate 'Out of the Ashes' and 'The Witching Hour' isn't a masterpiece either... And a lot of the lyrics is cheesy as hell... But when you are listening to the 20min epic 'Divine Wings of Tragedy' none of that matters.
9Ayreon
The Human Equation

Ok... To be honest, Ayreon isn't in my top 10 bands, but this album propably is in my top 10 albums so it's in! Firstly, it has a ton of great vocalists, secondly, the compositions work better than on any other Ayreon album and thirdly, the admittedly cheesy story atleast doesn't have much scifi mumbo jumbo. All in all, fantastic album.
10Strapping Young Lad
City

So I cheated and had another Devin album in... Shoot me! A superb album... Propably the best extreme metal one I've heard.
