51 Favourite Artists

Pretty self-explanatory. Apparently I don't listen to that many bands
1mewithoutYou

Lyrics are priority for me and lyrics are what first drew me to this band. Once I started listening to them though, the music really started speaking to me as well. These guys have taught me a lot and helped me through some jams
2Showbread

Showbread taught me that music is more than making money and having hot babes on your arms. They opened the obscure music door for me and I never looked back
3Neutral Milk Hotel

I haven't actually been listening to NMH for long, but I was instantly addicted. Great to sing until your voice stops working on the two hour drive home after fighting with your possibly lesbian ex-girlfriend. Oh, sorry
4Minus the Bear

They're just fucking amazing. Enough said
5He Is Legend

HIL was strong competition for my personal favourite band award when I was 14-15. I Am Hollywood is still one of the greatest albums in my collection. Suck Out the Poison is also good, but just not as good
6Death From Above, 1979

Another band I haven't been listening to for long, but they're ridiculously distorted instruments make me want to dance. Best driving music on a sunny day with the windows down
7Sufjan Stevens

I didn't like folk. Now I like folk.
8Jon Foreman

Better than Switchfoot for sure, soft acoustic goodness with slightly above average lyrics
9Thrice

Thrice has been a fave of mine for a long time, and they've conveniently gotten softer and more experimental as my taste has swayed that way
10City and Colour

Dallas Green makes me swoon
11Blindside

I haven't been listening to these guys much lately but I used to constantly. Great semi-almost-hardcore rock
12Ben Folds Five

I only have Whatever and Ever Amen, and I borrowed it from a friend but I love it. Song for the Dumped is fantastic
13Bradley Hathaway

Occasionally spoken-word poetry set to music
14Chasing Victory

I'm really not a fan of generic "screamo" (for lack of a better word), but for some reason I can listen to Fiends all day
15Muse

Everyone knows who Muse is, I don't think I need to explain
16The Mountain Goats

Indietastic, with obscure lyrics to boot!
17Nine Inch Nails

A necessity in any playlist
18Norma Jean

I can't believe I forgot about them until now! Fantastic music. The Anti Mother is a huge advancement for the band and the genre in general
19The Myriad

Nice Radiohead-esque group. Fun live show
20Radiohead

Yes
21Regina Spektor

I literally just started listening to her, but Far is an amazing album
22Sigur Ros
23Sam Roberts

He's a talented man, catchy, smart music
24Relient K

25Underoath

Say what you want about this band, but I love them. Define the Great Line and Lost in the Sound of Seperation are amazing. Anything from The Changing of Times or earlier is pretty generic. We don't speak of the other album
26Refused

Are fuckin' dead
27Project 86

I was a little upset with Rival Factions, but they redeemed themselves with the Kane Mutiny EP
28Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Not the kind of thing I like to listen to at a party, but great when the time is right
29Mae

Mae is only here because I'm realizing that I only listen to about 60 bands and they're just barely above the bottom 9. The Everglow was a letdown
30Emery

Kind of emo, but they're good at what they do. Another band that's helped me a lot.
31Every Time I Die

Top ten favourites for sure. ETID is as powerful musically as it is lyrically, which is a difficult feat
32Dustin Kensrue

The frontman of Thrice performing solo. So good
33A Day to Remember

They occasionally step up and prove that they can create an original sound in an overdone genre
34Coldplay

Of course
35MGMT

It's just ridiculously fun to listen to
36Justice

See: MGMT
37Alexisonfire

I listened to City and Colour before listening to Alexisonfire, which gave me a bit of some extra respect for them.
38DIES

Josh Dies of Showbread takes a shot at Industrial and does a good job
39Anberlin

Massive loss of respect after listening to New Surrender. There are like two good songs on it and one is a remake
40Wake of the Titan

Small time band largely inspired by Minus the Bear
41Weezer

Weezer
42Spoken

Just barely more than mediocre, but it's fun to listen to sometimes
43Our Lady Peace

Extra cool points for playing in my town every once in a while, no one else does..
44Raine Maida

Frontman of OLP, self-proclaimed acoustic hip-hop
45Earthsuit

Luckily turned into...
46Mutemath

A well respected band until joining the Twilight soundtrack
47The Contact

Local band, puts on a good show.
48Demon Hunter

My metal days are over but I used to love these guys
49Chevelle

Almost out of bands...
50Destroy the Runner

Saints was a good concept... sort of
51The Almost

Well now I'm completely out of bands. I guess I need to broaden my horizons a little
