06.24.09 | I'll be the first--and probably not last--to recommend "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel. Fantastic lyrics once the album clicks.
I also second the nomination for any mewithoutYou album. Aaron Weiss is a lyrical genius.
You can't really go wrong with any Bob Dylan--but "Blood On the Tracks" is definitely my favorite of his lyrically. |

06.24.09 | I'd back up Neutral Milk Hotel and Mewithoutyou. They Rock. Also try The Decemberists. |

06.24.09 | Cursive are pretty good lyrically and perhaps Say Anything as well. First person to start recommending post-rock bands loses horribly. |

06.24.09 | Yeah, I'll second MeWithoutYou and Say Anything (...Is A Real Boy specifically). |

06.24.09 | You're totally right about Either/Or being the top album. Elliott lyrics are just absolutely amazing. |

06.24.09 | MewithoutYou is lyrical genius. Other fantastic ones would be Bright Eyes. Namely Fevers & Mirrors, Lifted..., and I'm Wide Awake It's Morning. Circle Takes The Square has such incredible lyrics, once you get past the speed of the delivery. Anthony Green and Circa Surive has some pretty awesome lines. And I never thought John Darnielle's lyrics were that mindblowing, but then again I might have not heard the right albums. And for a completely different genre, I love Cynic's lyrics.
The moral of the story: mewithoutYou. |
illmitch
06.24.09 | the thing about John Darnielle is the beautiful simplicity of his lyrics, the little details that bring the imagery of his scenes to your mind.
