| '09 So Far.
A quarter of the way through, here's my favs. if this list bores
you/sucks, try to kick my ass
over it: ://jordanjoseph.mybrute.com/ | 1 | | Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion
Took a little while to grow on me, but this is now like Bazooka Joe in shag carpeting. I can't see how
something can surpass this in terms of listenability and accessibility. Not only is it spectacular through
and
through, but you can listen to this with your grandma and she probably wouldn't have any gufs about it.
That's what really makes this great. | 2 | | Kylesa Static Tensions
Metal album of the year thus far. The properly utilized dual drumming attack beats your brains out of
your
head so you can fit the beefy riffs in there. Vocals rule - Laura and Philip mix it up a bit compared to
Time Will
Fuse Its Worth. The song structure really allows this band to be more effective. Gone are the longer
segments in favor of a more Torche-esque approach (obviously a good move) that strikes with clever
choruses
that never get old. A truly perfect balance of colossal brutality and digestability. | 3 | | Mastodon Crack the Skye
Crack the Skye takes Blood Mountain and tames it into a more accessible, expansive, and coherent unit.
Where Blood Mountain had psychedelic spazz-outs intermingling with arguably their heaviest material.
Crack
the Skye has organically flowing epics and mini-epics. It takes a slightly mellower approach to the
formula that
has taken these guys to the top. There still remain utterly crushing moments throughout the album,
but it
seems the power of these sections has been enhanced as listeners are not desensitized to the crunch
and
punch common on previous albums. Mastodon aren't just for metalheads anymore - this is an album
for music
fans. | 4 | | Sigh Imaginary Sonicscape
Yeah, its a re-release. I've never heard these guys before, picked this up and was instantly blown away.
Truly
psychedelic, this album can't even be contained within a genre. There's metal, pop-rock, R&B, stuff
from every
decade from the 50s until now, etc, etc, etc. I can't even describe it all, there's just so much going on -
and its
somehow coherent. | 5 | | Lazarus A.D. The Onslaught
Thrash - it has been done, and acts like Municipal Waste, Warbringer, and Toxic Holocaust are doing it
again.
They do good stuff, but never really expand upon what their forefathers have created. Enter Lazarus
A.D.
From the foundation these guys are rock fucking solid - they write awesome songs. This is thrash in
the
hands of innovative minds instead of imitators. They tinge thrash with everything good going on in the
(insert
prefix here)-metal scenes. The dual-vocal attack is perfect, the solos rip, the rhythms complex yet
catchy, and
the production is stellar. This album basically sets the bar for thrash to come, anything less than this
just
won't create interest, as The Onslaught is truly an amazing album. | |

04.15.09 | I can't really get into 1. Sure some of the songs are pretty catchy, but others just don't have any appeal to me. It might still grow on me but I'm getting tired of giving it a chance. 3 is excllent, haven't heard the rest but want to hear 2. | poweroftheweez
04.15.09 | link is awesome. list is ok. | foreverendeared
04.15.09 | 1 is really good. 2 starts off really good but starts to really drag the second half. 3 is just pure awesome. 4 rules. 5 i havent heard yet. list needs The Decemberists, Isis, Mono, Silversun Pickups, Bat for Lashes, Propagandhi, Manchester Orchestra, and lots more i can't think of right now | halloway

04.15.09 | silversun pickups is REALLY good. Agoraphobic nosebleed is great too, but every song starts to sound the same about half way through. | kingsoby1
04.15.09 | *first third of 2009 | Merkaba33

04.16.09 | 1 grew off of me. It has some amazing tracks (My Girls, Summertime Clothes (especially Summertime Clothes), Brother Sport), but the rest ranges from really good to mediocre. | lobby
04.16.09 | Is it worth getting 5? I have the 07 version and the production was shitty...is it much of an improvement? | halloway
