New Finds Of 08
Bands that I was introduced to or bands I had heard of but never listened to until this past year. |
1 | | Century Black Ocean
Read the review on this sputnik and enjoyed this one quite thoroughly. Not completely original but enough fun to stay fresh. |
2 | | Made out of Babies The Ruiner
Another one I checked out thanks to a review here. Julie Christmas has a funny name and a great voice. |
3 | | Intronaut Void
Haven't heard many bands like this. Their song structures are very weird and there really isn't any catchiness to the music but is quite interesting to listen to. Still haven't listened to their new record yet. |
4 | | Botch We Are the Romans
This cd is incredible I don't believe I've heard an album that can match this one. The pacing, music and overall musicianship is outstanding. Complicated structures and riffing make this one worth the listen. |
5 | | Converge Jane Doe
Initially this was very hard to get into thanks to Bannon and his ear shredding vocals but once you get past it it's pretty close to Botch in greatness. Similar to Botch but somewhat of a different direction. |
6 | | Kylesa Time Will Fuse Its Worth
A sludge filled rampage that is all about the riffs. They are able to move from driving fuzzed out riffs to psychedelic passages with ease. |
7 | | Oxbow An Evil Heat
Honestly one of the weirdest records I have ever heard. Creepy, intense and downright unsettling almost constantly but always brilliant. |
8 | | One Day As a Lion One Day As A Lion [EP]
Zach finally emerges from obscurity and with some help on the drums produces a great EP not sounding tired or preachy like he was beginning to at the end of Rage. His singing doesn't quite work but there isn't much so it barely detracts from the experience. |
9 | | Burst Origo
Origo was introduction to these guys and I am glad I was turned on to this. They are incredibly dynamic and every song is spectacular. Lazarus Bird is easily one of the best releases of '08 and Prey on Life is very good as well. |
10 | | Neurosis The Eye of Every Storm
First turned on to them because I was told they are similar to Isis but I could never get into their style. After finally catching the stylistic method they use it reveals a dense, haunting experience that few of their followers can match. I still prefer Isis but these guys are right behind them. |
